Chapter 93 Eiden
Eiden's POV
“We apologize for not being able to find the perpetrators, Alpha,” the warrior spy team leader said with a straight back and a firm voice, though anxiety shone in his eyes.
“We will fight harder to catch them,” he said with burning determination. “We will not give up until we hand the perpetrators over to you.”
“Your report is received.” I sighed through my mouth. “Continue your mission.” I waved my hand.
“And remember that I can’t wait to interrogate the perpetrators,” I added hastily. My eyes locked with his, making sure he hadn’t forgotten my words.
“We understand, Alpha,” the head of the warrior spy team said with a nod. “We’ll return with good news.”
“Don’t make promises to me, because I’ll hold you to them in less than a week,” I warned him, making it clear that my patience had limits.
I clicked my tongue in annoyance once I was alone in my office.
“They’ve been hunting the perpetrators for three weeks now. Even after expanding beyond our pack territory, there’s still haven’t found any leads.”
I rested my chin on my intertwined fingers, my gaze fixed on the laptop displaying the email I had sent to the rogue assassin group two weeks ago, when I paid them to find out who had hired Alpha Sifon’s members.
"But I promised myself I wouldn't contact them again."
I got their email addresses from Celeste. At the time, Celeste encouraged me to email them, but now she's not suggesting I hire rogue assassins to catch the perpetrators.
"Is it because Celeste is also confident that my warriors can handle this case?"
But I’d waited long enough. For almost a month, threats had followed me; notes tied to stones, been shot in the left ear, and my car being blocked.
The perpetrators had shattered the windows of my bedroom and the front living room of my mansion, and even the restaurant’s glass door.
"At first, I thought this was fun. Someone wants me dead," I muttered.
"I haven't felt threatened yet, but the perpetrators must be caught. Besides wanting to torture them, I don't want to imagine the terrible things they could do to me.
"The man dared to shoot my ear and the two men blocked my car while carrying machetes." I shook my head as a horrific scenario crossed my mind. "I don't want to die at their hands."
My fists clenched tightly, my jaw clenched as I said, "I haven't named Liam my heir. I haven't even heard him call me father."
I couldn't die before that happens.
"I also haven't spoken to Celeste about my feelings for her and my desire for us to be together again as mates."
I have many reasons to live and fight those who want me dead.
My wolf nodded in satisfaction. He was pleased that I no longer underestimated the terrors and threats.
I stood up from my chair, took a deep breath, and slowly exhaled. I forced a smile, trying to push aside my frustration over the unresolved case.
"Time for a vacation with the people I love." I chuckled at my own words.
I wouldn't be able to say that in front of anyone else; it would only embarrass me.
Celeste, Liam, and Levi were already at our house, which was nestled between the rogue and werewolf clans.
We had stayed there four times. We felt comfortable and safe because the security guards and neighbors didn't know about us, and there was no mention of us having a house there on the internet.
The post spreading the news that an Alpha werewolf had a child with a rogue has disappeared from the internet. The post's creator even deleted their account.
Many believe the news is a hoax, and quite a few speculate that the Alpha werewolf threatened the person who uploaded the post.
I can't be relieved that the people who believed the post did their own investigation, but even so, Celeste didn't bother and still brought her sons to meet me.
I also tried not to think too much about the people who were actively trying to prove that the post was true and not a hoax.
"They won't find us," I told myself. "I'm not that well-known. So they won't think to investigate me." Those are the words I've been saying for the past five days.
I got out of the car, smiling brightly as I looked at our house. Without removing my glasses, hat, and mask, I entered my most comfortable place with light steps.
“Hi, Alpha.” Liam and Levi were drawing. Their bright smiles looked so innocent.
“Hi, kids.” I handed them the black plastic bag. “Who wants chocolate?”
“Me!” They answered in unison.
I smiled as they eagerly opened the boxes.
I locked eyes with Celeste, and we exchanged smiles. Moon Goddess. She grew more beautiful with every passing week.
‘A womanizer like you has no right to admire someone as sincere as Celeste,’ my wolf scoffed.
I winced at Arlo's words.
We moved to the art studio upstairs. All the supplies were ready, and the oil paints came in a wide range of colors.
Celeste tried painting. We laughed as she hugged her canvas, refusing to show anyone.
Our laughter died down, replaced by gaping mouths as Celeste took the painting to her room. She really didn't want anyone else to see her masterpiece.
"Painting is fun, but for me, who can't paint and doesn't know what to paint, it makes me nervous and embarrassed," Celeste said, her cheeks flushed.
My heart was beating so fast I couldn't breathe. My hands stopped dancing across the canvas. All because Celeste had suddenly sat down next to me!
I could smell her strawberry-scented perfume mixed with the rogue scent—her natural body odor.
“You don’t need any skill to paint on a canvas,” I told her. “Just express whatever you feel. You’ve heard of abstract art, haven’t you?”
“Yeah, I know, but I want to paint something living or still life. That way, people won't have to guess what I'm painting,” Celeste said with a shy grin.
“I know what you mean.” I nodded. “Yeah, maybe if you paint every day, your paintings will improve.”
“Don’t comfort me.” Celeste gave me an annoyed look. “I’ve never heard of such a thing.”
“I think I read an article somewhere where a professional painter said he painted day and night until he found his style.”
“I think painting is a talent.”
“Oh, really?” I tilted my head. Celeste pouted. I smiled faintly, holding back from kissing her.
Moon Goddess. This dirty mind loves to tease me.
“Would you be surprised if I told you I already know who paid those people who terrorized you?” Celeste abruptly changed the subject.
My brows knitted together. “How do you know who they are?”
“I’m not joking.” I studied Celeste and gasped when I saw no deceit in her face or eyes. “But I can’t tell you now.”
“Why?” I raised an eyebrow.
“I’ll tell you why later, when I reveal who the perpetrators are,” Celeste said earnestly. “I promise you.”
I hesitated to believe her, but there was no way she was saying that just to appease me.
"If you haven't received any terror, threats, or other bad things during this week, you must trust me and not force me to tell you, because I will keep my promise," Celeste said firmly.
For a moment, I was stunned. She didn’t seem like the Celeste I knew. She spoke with confidence, negotiating smoothly, effortlessly earning her opponent’s trust.
Who was Celeste really? Should I investigate her or wait for her to open up to me?
