Chapter 74 Eiden

Chapter 74 Eiden
Eiden's POV

“Who are those two?” Beta Serena stared at me as if I knew them. “They had the nerve to stop your car and knock on the window next to you. They were ready to die!”

I couldn't avoid those who were worried about me and wondering who the two men were blocking my journey back to the pack with my six warriors.

I had actually asked the six warriors escorting me to tell them about what had happened the next morning because I wanted to rest after sitting through two hours of Alpha Jacob and Alpha Brendon's seminar.

However, the six warriors and our spy warrior, who was secretly watching me, couldn't resist telling Beta Serena, Gamma Nolan, Delta Sophia, and the Head Warrior.

The four men came straight to my mansion, panicked, confused, and full of questions.

They wouldn't even let me have a glass of water and didn't want to know if Alpha Jacob and Alpha Brandon's lectures had convinced the werewolf Alphas to make peace with their enemies.

"Can you guess who sent those two men, Alpha?" Gamma Nolan looked at me, convinced I already knew who they were. "Or were they just robbers?"

I didn't say anything, just stared at him blankly. Gamma Nolan grinned sheepishly, realizing his stupidity.

“They’d be stupid if they were robbers,” Beta Serena sneered. “They’re not blind, and they’re definitely not night-blind. They had to have seen our pack’s flag on the front grille.”

“They fled after three of our wolf warriors approached them,” Delta Sophia said with furrowed brows. “They were scared. They believed their wolves couldn’t fight our warriors.”

“That means they were civilians.” Beta Serena scratched her hair thoughtfully.

“They carry sharp weapons.” Beta Serena widened her eyes. “Are they rogue assassins? They rely on weapons. Their wolves rarely interfere.”

We were silent, contemplating her words and guessing at the two men’s intentions.

The only sound that followed was the hitch of their breaths.

I remained the same, feeling neither afraid nor threatened. I could defend myself, and my wolf was strong. We wouldn’t let anyone bring us near the Grim Reaper.

“But… rogue assassins carry pistols, swords, and knives,” Gamma Nolan said, breaking the silence.

Gamma Nolan folded his arms across his chest and his gaze fixed on the table. “Those two men were carrying machetes. They looked more like robbers.”

“Rogue assassins also kill wolves,” Delta Sophia said. “They kill in the middle of the night. When their targets are alone.”

I nodded without speaking.

“I know my guess was wrong. There’s no way those two men are rogue assassins,” Beta Serena spoke again.

“Our enemies aren’t cowards. They wouldn’t hire rogue assassins,” Beta Serena added.

“Stop guessing.” I waved my hand. I'd been letting them talk all along. “Our spy warriors are pursuing them. Trust me, we’ll catch them.”

The three of them nodded.

“Alpha, you should bring more warriors every time you go out of the pack,” Beta Serena said with concern clear in her eyes.

“Those two men didn’t do anything to you, but we still need to be vigilant and anticipate if this happens again.” Beta Serena said seriously, forcing me to consider her advice.

“Beta Serena is right, Alpha.” Delta Sophia looked at me intently. “We don’t want anything bad to happen to you.” She shook her head, her fists clenched tightly. “We will assign more warriors to escort you.”

“You will be escorted by ten warriors every time you leave the pack.” Gamma Nolan looked at me straight in the eye, his face as serious as a prosecutor reading a verdict.

“Five warriors in the front car and five in the back,” Gamma Nolan said.

He turned to Delta Sophia. “Should we have two warriors in wolf form on the right and left sides of Alpha’s car?”

“Yes, I agree with you.” Delta Sophia nodded twice. “The four warriors will deal with those who have bad intentions towards Alpha.”

“That’s a good idea,” Beta Serena said.

“We have plenty of warriors. Alpha’s safety is our priority,” Gamma Nolan said passionately, not wanting to hear me reject his idea.

I sighed and looked at each of them. “Okay. I appreciate your concern for me.” They smiled in relief. “I won’t make you worry about me.”

After they left my office, I went to my room and lay down on my bed.

I pondered. This silence was just what I needed.

A message from the head warrior came to my work phone, informing me that I was the only one experiencing this.

Mysterious figures stopped none of the Alpha werewolves from the River Pack Clan as they were about to enter clan territory.

The two men carried machetes, but they didn't do anything.

The man rapped his gloved knuckles against the car window.

They fled when my three wolf warriors approached.

They were just trying to threaten me.

I read the message from the unknown number, almost forgetting about it.

“If I tell them about this message, Beta Serena will definitely send our spy warriors to dig into Celeste’s background. Whether the rogues notice or not won’t stop her,” I muttered.

‘Honestly, I wonder what if those messages are telling the truth,’ my wolf said. 'The same person definitely sent them.'

'Why are you curious?'

'I just want to know how Celeste could contact the rogue assassins,' my wolf said.

'They’re unknown to civilians. Gaining access to them isn’t easy, and they charge a high fee for every transaction.' My wolf recalled the details of the rogue assassin groups.

'Come to think of it…' I rubbed my brow. 'It’s quite strange and interesting.' I nodded, picturing Celeste in my mind.

'Celeste is like a tightly closed box, and I have the choice to open it or not.' I smiled, feeling my heart pounding for some reason. I failed to understand my feelings.

'Your analogy about Celeste is a bit strange and unique.' My wolf shook my head.

I stared at my phone screen for a long time. I was unusually hesitant. My heartbeat increased with each passing second.

My eyes widened as my hand moved without my will.

“Hello.”

My heart felt like it was going to explode at the sound of her soft voice. I put my phone to my ear, so her voice echoed in my head.

“Hello.” I wanted to curse. Why were my cheeks so red?

“What is Liam doing?” I realized that lately, I hadn’t been calling Celeste at night because I wanted to hear about him.

I just wanted to talk to her before bed.

“Liam’s asleep,” Celeste replied.

"He came home from school upset. He had gotten into a fight with a classmate over a toy. They nearly pushed each other if the others hadn't quickly separated them," Celeste recounted with amusement. She must have been smiling.

“Is that toy Liam’s?”

“Yes.”

“Liam did the right thing.” I was proud of my son. “He took care of his own and taught his classmate not to steal other people’s belongings.”

“Yes, Liam is a smart boy.” Celeste was pleased with our son’s actions.

“He’s smart because he has a smart mom.” I’m sure a blush spread across Celeste’s cheeks.

“Thanks for the compliment.” Her voice sounded shy.

How could a woman as gentle and sincere as Celeste actually be dangerous? Those messages must have been sent by someone who wanted to set us against each other.

I felt anxious and angry at the thought of someone finding out about Celeste and Liam. Who sent the messages? Their number couldn't be detected.

“I—”

My words died in my throat, my heart lurching as the sharp crash of shattering glass ripped through the silence of my room.

The gray curtains billowed in the night air. My eyes were fixed on the floor, shards of glass scattered around a stone the size of my clenched fist.

“What was that noise, Alpha?” Celeste’s voice on the phone brought me back to my senses.

“Someone threw a rock at my bedroom window,” I said calmly, walking cautiously toward the stone.

“What? How could that happen?” Celeste was as shocked as I was.

“Alpha.” My heart stopped beating for the second time when a warrior knocked on the door. I sighed sharply and ushered them in.

“Stop.” I raised my free hand to stop them from explaining their actions.

“Secure the stone,” I ordered.

“I will, Alpha.” A warrior took the stone without hesitation. Then he stood and handed me a piece of paper.

“I’ll kill you.” I read the paper with a raised eyebrow.

“Did you receive any threats?” Celeste was still on the line with me.

“I thought so.”

“Your response was very relaxed.”

“If I panicked and got scared, my men would be even more paranoid than I am.”

“You’re a very understanding leader.”

“I’ll take that as a compliment.” I smiled faintly. Celeste was very funny.

I asked the warrior to give the paper to the head of the elite warrior team.

The other three warriors cleared the broken glass from my room.

That night and for the next few days, I didn’t sleep in my room.

How interesting. This was the first time someone had tried to kill me.
