Chapter 68: My Second Chance Mate.
Bella’s pov.
We stood there for a minute. Waiting. Hoping. Praying.
The goddess was called upon. But now we must wait to hear her answers.
Did she hear us? Did she see our prayers?
My hands shook as I waited for her to respond. Praying that she’d see my pain, my anger.
The things Garrett has put me through, the things he’s out Megan through her entire life.
How bad of a father he was. How poorly he treated me as his mate. How he used me to benefit his title.
How he doesn’t deserve me any more.
Just as I thought she might not come, might not answer us. The light started to shine brightly upon me.
Making everyone in the temple gasp in shock.
“She’s here… she’s answered our call,” elder Abby said while smiling at me, probably seeing my pain displayed on my face as I looked towards her.
I let the light surround me, wrapping around me in its warmth…
‘Child… I’ve answered your prayers. Only because this is what you want… what you deserve. You don’t have to be tied to Garrett any longer my child. You’ll find your true love soon. Don’t worry, I will take care of everything. You never have to be tied to that man again… I’ve seen the way you’ve been treated. The way your daughter has been treated. Your pack members… I made you a white wolf for a reason, and your current mate won’t help you save the world. But your second chance mate will,’ the goddess’s voice rang in my head, so soothing, so apologetic.
I sighed in peace as the sun disappeared from my body, moving onto Garrett’s next.
But it wasn’t warm… it wasn’t happy… it was cold, and it was angry.
Garrett screamed in pain as the mark on his neck sizzled and bled.
The goddess forcefully took it away from him and his wolf, not caring about the pain she was causing him to feel.
I felt John walk up behind me… his hands resting on my sides as he felt my fear.
I sucked in a sharp inhale of breath, watching as Garrett screamed in pain. My mark was almost completely gone…
My hand drifted towards my neck absentmindedly, a gasp escaping my throat as I realized Garrett’s mark was gone. Completely gone. And I felt no pain…
Just as Garrett stopped screaming his eyes snapped towards me, a strangled noise escaped his throat as the last thread of our bond snapped.
Our mate bond is gone. And we’ll never be tied to each other again.
I let out a sigh of relief… but it was short lived as Tundra perked up at a new scent. Our second chance mate… he was here. Behind us… but who could it be? No one is here except the higher elders and Elian, and… John.
I spun around quickly, my eyes locking onto Johns.
A primal growl escaped his throat as he grabbed me into his arms and spun me around.
“Mine,” he said into my neck, inhaling my scent before putting me back down… “my mate… you’re my mate.”
I laughed uncontrollably as I stared into his eyes with a smile I couldn’t wipe off of my face.
“Mate… my mate,” I whispered in awe, totally shocked at this revelation. John… my second chance mate… I never thought he’d be my second chance mate, but I’m beyond happy that he is.
John laughed too, the happy kind of laughter. The kind of laughter that makes your toes curl and your belly hurt.
I opened my mouth, about to say something when Garrett screamed out, cutting me off.
“No! What the hell is this? He’s not your mate! I am!” He screamed frantically, his eyes wild with rage and confusion, making me growl angrily.
“You’re not my mate! You lost the privilege to call yourself that. We rejected each other. The goddess agreed and took out marks and broke our bond. She blessed me with a second chance… and I couldn’t of been happier with who it turned out to be,” I said, pausing as I looked up into John's eyes, batting my eyelashes as I leaned in and planted a kiss on his lips, savouring the way he felt against me, “don’t look so angry, Garrett. This is what you wanted, wasn’t it? You didn’t want me anymore. You wanted Rose, your son. So forget about me and Megan. Live your life away from us, we don’t need you anymore.”
I scoffed at the look on his face, leaning into John as he held me close, not letting me go for even a second.
“Let’s go home… there’s so many things I want to do to you,” John whispered into my ear, making shivers run through my body at all of the thoughts running through my head.
I liked the sound of that…
“Stop!” Garrett shouted as we started to walk away from the temple, scrambling to his feet to catch up to us, “let go of her! Get away from her! You aren’t touching her! She’s fine, you won’t be getting her dirty with your filthy hands!”
He tried to rip me away from John's arms but I was quicker, spinning out of the way and smacking him as hard as I could across the face.
The sound of my palm connecting with his face echoing across the temple walls.
Garrett just stood there, frozen as he stared at me in shock.
I dusted my hands off each other before putting my hand on John's arm, not soaring him another glance as I left with my mate. My second chance mate…
The one man I wanted to be with.
Before we exited I could hear Rose freaking out on Garrett, the elders murmuring about the odds of a second chance mate and how the goddess truly blessed us.
“Bella…?” John’s voice said nervously from beside me, making my head snap up in his direction, “are you okay?”
“Why wouldn't I be okay?” I asked curiously, smiling at his unsure face, “I get to be with the one man I wanted to be with.”
