Chapter 12

Skye walked into the living room where her father was trying to call Kathy, but it seemed she'd blocked his number. He approached Skye only after noticing her holding a cellphone.

Did you give her a call?

“Yes, I did. Instead of her, a man answered, identifying himself as her husband.

“Honey, the thought just struck me — did she elope? That would explain why we haven't received an invitation. It's like a secret wedding bells are ringing.”

"There's no way she would do something like that. I’m sending my men to collect her; they'll bring her back here immediately,”

Yes, she works at The City Night Club; I know she serves drinks there. My friends had a birthday party there, so I would know. "Kathy served us drinks before, so she wasn't surprised to see us," Skye explained, "but she didn't say anything; she just left."

“Is she still working there?” asked Edward

"Yes, they paid a good sum, and that's how she bought her first car."

“Skye, please stick to the plan. Go to her workplace, talk with her, and see if she’ll return home.”

“Dad, you're aware she doesn't care for me.”

“Please give it a try.”

Knowing her father was aware of the plan, and with the lateness of the hour, Skye headed to her bedroom, changed her clothes, and got into bed. As she lay there, she thought about getting her sister to the house. Kathy stared at her locked bedroom door, wondering how she could get in.

In the middle of the night, Kathy woke up in a strange bed, her stomach empty. She wanted to go downstairs for something to eat, but hesitated about entering a strange kitchen. She got out of bed, rummaged through her backpack, and grabbed a snack bar to tide her over until morning. From her position on the floor near the bed, she saw a man sleeping on the couch; the blanket covering only his lower body, his arm resting behind his head on the pillow. Quietly, she crawled closer and lightly touched his ear. Anthony, a strikingly handsome man, grasped her wrist and gently pulled her towards him as she tried to get up from the floor, finally laying on his chest.

“What are you doing out of the bed?”

“Luckily, I had a snack bar in my bag to satisfy my hunger.”

"I was trying to sleep, but you kept staring at me."

“Wait! You feel that?”

“I definitely feel like I’m being watched while I sleep.”

Anthony opened his milky-white eyes—the result of a blindness spell cast by his ex-lover. She wanted to help him but didn't know how. His scent was intoxicating; the sight of his lips made her yearn for a kiss, but she couldn't bring herself to do it. As Kathy tried to pull herself away from him, he wrapped his arm around her waist to keep her close, causing her to feel his hardness against her, making her blush. Suddenly, she was beneath him. Before things went further, Anthony regained control from Max. He released her.

“Um…. I should get back into the bed before you know it, it will be morning,”

Anthony stood up from beside Kathy on the couch, so she could also get up and go back to bed for the night. Just as she was getting under the blanket, Anthony said something to her that made her stop in her tracks.

“Who is Harvey Crawford?”

My father wanted me to marry someone, but I refused. Harvey was furious when I told him I was married, and he tried to have his men grab me, but I sprayed something in their eyes. My father's men also got hold of me. Kathy said, "I had to kick him in his private area, then I ran out the back door, went around to the front, got into my car, and drove away."

Remembering work the next day, Kathy grabbed her phone. It was late, so she quickly texted her boss, excusing herself from her night shift. After finishing, she let a coworker take over her shift, placed the item on the light stand, and then lay down on the pillow. Drift off to sleep. Meanwhile, Anthony pondered Kathy's potential marriage to him, wondering how to approach her father, who seemed more concerned with social standing than his daughter's happiness. She wants to marry for love, not for money. Anthony could use Beta Miles to investigate Kathy and her family. Before he realized it, he drifted off to sleep.
