Chapter 34: Chapter 34

MARTHA'S POV:

"What do you want, sir?" I asked when I pulled the door open and saw my boss standing there, his hands holding a packaged meal for me.

"I ordered this from the restaurant for you," he said, extending the yellow package to me.

My hands firmly wrapped my towel around my chest as an awkward atmosphere hung in the air.

"Thank you, sir," I said, to which Mr. Weston nodded, smiled, and said, "I guess you know your way around the house. The kitchen is on the right side in case you need anything. Also, the fridge. It is stocked with fruits, and if you care to have any of them."

"Alright, sir. I will check them out later. The food is enough. Good night." I stepped back into the room as I saw Mr. Weston gazing lingering on my chest.

I quickly shut the door, breathing heavily as I felt nervous to be in my boss's house.

Get it together, Martha. Mr. Weston is not the type of man to take advantage of a woman. He has helped me more than once, I murmured as I moved to set the package on the table.

I dashed into the bathroom to have my bath. I stepped into the transparent shower and bathed quickly. The warm water soothed my body before I finished having my bath and stepped out.

I wrapped my towel around my chest and moved back into my room, settling for pink pajamas. I towel-dried my hair and moved to the chair to eat the meal. My mind wandered about my fate at the bank the following day.

Once I unpacked the meal that Mr. Weston bought, I saw that he had ordered a plate of delicious yam porridge. I grinned and ate it, knowing that Mr. Weston was a kind man. If only I could fall for him.

After my dinner, I felt satisfied and so I rose to my feet to return the disposable plate to the trash bin.

When I walked out of the guest room, I made my way through the corridor. My feet clicked softly on the tiled floor as I navigated my way and found the vast kitchen.

Swiftly, I dashed into the kitchen and discarded the plate before rushing to the fridge and grabbing a bottle of water. As I turned to leave the kitchen, I met Mr. Weston standing at the doorway. He seemed like he had taken his bath, as his short black hair was dripping wet. It reminded me of the tall man from the hotel, who had long dark hair.

Shaking my head, my lips curled in a smile as I showed him the bottled water in my hand.

"I came to get water."

"It's fine, Martha. Rest well," Mr. Weston said, as he did not try to stop me. I moved past him and went back to the guest room. But I could still feel his gaze lingering on me.

When I stepped into my room, I breathed out heavily and locked the door. Then I moved over to the bed to sleep.

I picked up my phone to check on my page, and I was stunned to see that I already had 500,000 followers in one day.

"Wow!" I was stunned. The power of social media was so strong, and so many fans felt pity for me, and they were even clamouring to create a support page for me. Just then, my excitement dwindled when I saw Elena's video. She was so shameless, making a video of herself.

I listened to Elena's narration, lying to her new fans that her mother had treated me well.

My fist clenched and I thought of how to deal with Sandra and her daughter.

Ignoring Elena's video, I posted a new status on my page and captioned it:

"Thanks to all my fans that helped me out during this trying period. Justice shall prevail."

Smiling to myself, I put my phone away and covered myself with the bed quilt before I drifted off to sleep.

The next morning, the rays of sunlight seeped through the slightly open curtains and landed on my face.

I yawned, stretched, and got out of the bed. I quickly moved into the bathroom to have my bath, as I knew that I couldn't be late for my business class. I was a final-year student, and so I bathed quickly before I darted out of the bathroom and donned a green dress that fell past my knees and hugged my slender body politely.

The green dress had a long sleeve to shield my body from the cold weather, as the rainfall the previous night still made the weather cold despite the sunlight. It was the middle of the year, when the rainfall was too much.

Breathing out with relief, I was done styling my hair. Luckily, I had a spare comb in my bag and some of my cosmetic products that I had stuffed into my bag the previous day.

As I was done styling my long hair in a bun and grabbing my handbag, I set off to leave the room, ensuring that I didn't forget anything.

As I was about to leave the room, my phone rang aloud, startling me. I quickly retrieved it and glanced at the caller. The police officer's name flashed on the screen.

"Hello, officer," I said, and he replied, "Morning, Ms. Roger. I am calling you concerning our investigation to be carried out today, before we charge your stepmother to court. Can you come over to the house for our investigation? It won't take much of your time, as I learnt that you didn't return home the previous night."

"Alright, Officer. I will be there soon," I said, knowing that things were a bit different in this Sun City.

When I rushed out to the living room, I met Mr. Weston fully dressed in a white shirt and black trousers. He appeared handsome as he wore black polished shoes too. His hand was clutching a cup of tea, as the steam curled around his lips.

"Good morning, sir," I greeted him, as he stood beside the dining room. The time read 8:00 a.m.

"Morning, Martha. I figured that you would be in a hurry. But I don't know if you will like to have tea," he said, and I wanted to refuse. But meeting his intense gaze, I nodded.

"I will love to."

"Alright. Come have a seat; let me brew this tea for you. It won't take much of your time."

"Okay, sir." I moved to the chair and plopped on the first seat, as I watched my boss serving me. I tensed as he placed the teacup filled with steamy tea before me.

"Thank you, sir," I said, and he smiled.

"Alright. Do you care for some bread?"

"Yeah. I hope I don't get chubby with these few days with you," I said, knowing that once that cheque was legitimate, I was moving out to get an apartment of my own, as I didn't want to lean too much on my boss.

"Of course not. But gaining a few more pounds will look good on you," Mr. Weston teased me, and I smiled at his words.

"Alright." I quickly picked up the bread that he served me, as I joined him in having breakfast.

Once I was done drinking the tea, I rose to my feet to leave the house, but Mr. Weston's phone rang aloud before I could speak.

"Excuse me, Martha," he said, as he stepped away from me to answer his call. I moved the cups to the kitchen to wash them, moving around the space like the house was my own, like I already belonged there, then I finished and moved back to the living room to find Mr. Weston.
