Chapter 14 Chapter 14
(Martha's POV)
After my workday came to an end, as I was on the morning to evening shift.
I went back to the changing room on the ground floor to take my bag and head home.
My best friend, Bolu, rushed into the changing room to meet me.
She was tall and fair-skinned, like me. But she wasn't a waitress; she worked for a jewelry company. She smiled upon seeing me in the yellow dress.
"Martha, how are you doing today?" Bolu asked, standing at the door as she wore a red dress.
"I am fine. I am off duty and going home," I replied with a yawn, and she smiled at me.
"Seriously? Guess what I saw today?" Bolu asked, making a face.
I picked up my bag to leave the restaurant. They sell at night, but I do not work the night shift that closes around ten. I close at 6 p.m.
"What did you see?" I asked Bolu when we stepped out of the changing room.
Everyone knew that Bolu was my friend, so they didn't try to stop her. After all, Bolu and I had attended the same high school, but unluckily for her, she didn't further her education, while I was privileged. Her father prioritized her three brothers and believed a woman's place was in the kitchen.
When Bolu and I strode into the main hall, where several patrons were still arriving, I caught Jasper's gaze on me.
"Hey, Martha! Over here!"
"I will be back, Bolu," I said before hurrying over to meet my boss.
He stood in front of his office door and pushed it to unlock it.
"Come in," Jasper said when he strode back into his office.
My heart raced, wondering why he had summoned me. Did he finally want to fire me?
"Have a seat, Martha," Jasper said as I walked into his office and stood nervously at the door.
I moved to take a seat. His office featured two guest seats, a desk, and his own chair across from me.
Jasper pulled out an ointment and walked over to me.
My heart raced as I wondered what he was up to.
I sat anxiously, watching him uncover the ointment as he walked further to meet me.
The atmosphere in his office thickened as I breathed the same air as him.
"Sir, you do not have to do this. I can do it myself," I said, my hand stretching forward to take the ointment from him.
"Relax, Martha. I am your boss, and I will not fire you," Jasper replied, his deep voice making me nervous. I nodded and lowered my head.
"This scar looks suspicious, Martha," Jasper said as he now stood beside me on my left.
"I do not understand what you mean, sir," I replied, lifting my head to peer at his face.
Jasper smiled and said, "Are you aware of werewolves?"
"Werewolves?" My heart raced as I recalled the previous night with the man at the hotel.
I looked away from my boss, trying to hide the truth as I told him, "I heard gossips about the existence of werewolves, but it's all fairytale and not real," I replied firmly, believing I was just thinking too much.
"Martha, have you thought about it? If werewolves are real, and you got marked by a werewolf—were you attacked in your dream? This looks like a mating mark," Jasper said, and I jumped away from the seat and staggered backward, away from him.
"How do you know it's a mating mark? What do you mean?" I asked him, trembling, as I didn't want to think that I got mated to a werewolf.
My head was spinning, and before I could rush out of the office, Jasper caught my arms, just like the man last night. His movements were so fast that I didn't see him coming.
"Relax, Martha. I will not hurt you. Just come and have a seat. Let me take care of your wound," Jasper said, and I swallowed hard.
"Sir, you are scaring the life out of me. Are you for real that I got bitten by a true werewolf?"
"Oh, so it's not a scratch, like you lied to me. Tell me about the man. Who was he? He is a werewolf, and he claimed you as his mate. It's a sign that he will come back for you. Werewolves don't leave traces as we do not want humans to uncover our existence," Jasper said, and I trembled, my eyes widening in horror as I asked him, "Are you a werewolf?"
"Yes," he replied confidently as he rubbed the ointment over my neck.
"I thought you were human. Are your parents werewolves too?" I asked him, confused, because ever since I had been working for Jasper for two years now, he seemed human. I hadn't suspected that he was not a human being.
"My parents are in the Dark Mountain Pack."
"What?" I gasped, and the next moment I fainted on the chair. The revelation was too much for me to handle.
The Dark Mountain Pack. The man from the previous night was also from the Dark Mountain Pack.
How was it a coincidence that I had been working for a werewolf who I assumed was a good man? And now, I got to sleep with a man from a werewolf pack.
I didn't want to wake up to the reality. I wanted to wake up peacefully and believe that I am not involved with any werewolves, that my boss was just lying to me, that I hadn't slept with a werewolf. The thought of his scent, the mixture of forest and woods.
The way his eyes had glowed a golden hue. Jasper's eyes were black, so that hadn't raised any questions around the restaurant.
How many more werewolves are living among us that we don't know about?
I slept, and when I awoke, I found myself lying on a bed.
"Where am I?" I gasped, sitting up immediately as my eyes scanned my surroundings.
"You're in my private suite. You fainted, and I had to bring you in here to wake up," Mr. Jasper's voice reached me as he sat on a chair in the room, his eyes observing me closely.
"What do you want from me? Let me go!" I stepped down from the bed, but I winced when I saw the IV drip connected to my left hand.
"You have a low blood count, Martha, so I invited a nurse to administer some blood into your veins before you faint again," Jasper's voice was calm, and my eyes darted to the blood bag.
"What blood is it? Is it werewolf blood or human blood?" I asked him, trembling as I glared at him.
"Hahaha!" Jasper laughed and said, "Relax, Martha, your blood didn't match with werewolf blood. And besides, where would you see werewolf blood? We are in the human city. Before I forget, you shouldn't tell anyone about what I told you. You are the only one that I told that secret to. No one knows that I am a werewolf… except for real werewolves."
