VALERIE'S POV
"Let her sleep. She works twice as hard as any of us to earn her expenses. She must've worked late at night or grabbed another part-time job," I could hear Blue's voice near me, and I smiled with my eyes closed.
Though it was early morning, I was still feeling as dead as a log.
A good 1-2 hours of sleep is what I need right now.
That's what I have been trying to do for the past twenty minutes with my head on the bench, but thanks to the werewolf hearing and senses, my body is constantly in alert mode, hearing everything the people are talking about near me.
Last night, I couldn't sleep a wink because my head could not stop thinking about that grey-eyed alpha. I was going mad, thinking about things and scenarios that didn’t even make sense. I don't know what he wants from me, but I am sure the way I left wasn't pleasant for him.
I just hope he doesn't go all vengeful on me, or I will need to leave this place, and that's not what I want right now.
"Woah, did you guys hear?" Monty's excited voice made me groan.
Keep it down! I wanted to shout at him. Your voices are ten times sharper for us werewolves!
"Hey, keep it low. She is resting," Blue came to my rescue again.
"She will wake up sooner or later. The lecture is about to start. You know our Biochemistry professor talked about getting an assistant yesterday, right? He said someone might come because of an inspection, right? Guess who the person is?" Monty asked, and I felt his stare on my body, making me uncomfortable.
Turning my head to the other side, I sighed.
"Who is it?" Eve asked, and Monty immediately shut up, making me laugh inside my head.
Seriously, if I hadn’t been trying to rest, I would've laughed loudly at his shy face.
This guy was whipped for -
My thoughts took an abrupt halt when I sensed something weird. Why was the class suddenly silent and talking in whispers? I am sure the lecture hasn't started yet.
And this scent. Is this scent of - Why is it getting closer? I thought and was about to lift my head when I felt someone's breath on my neck.
Raising my head, I gasped in shock.
I would’ve fallen back from my chair if he hadn't grabbed me at the last second.
"What the hell, Brandon?" I looked at the guy who came too close to my face before looking at the man in front of me.
What is he -?
"Sleeping in the first lecture, sunshine?" He asked, and I looked at my friends to see if this was real.
However, their shocked gazes were enough to tell me the truth.
"Isn't this the same man from yesterday? He seriously came here as the inspection member for her? What kind of power does he hold? I can feel it here," one of the girls at some distance said.
"Ahh, I don't know, but this is so hot," The other girl squealed, and I narrowed my eyes.
"I was tired, and I don't see why resting when your professor is yet to show up should be a problem," I remarked, and he nodded.
He came here as the inspection officer? What the hell is going on in his mind?
"True. The professor is here now. I will have my eyes on you," He said before he sat in the empty seat right behind me, making me want to tear his head open to see why he was doing this to me.
"Hey, what's going on between him and you? Is he stalking you or something? You don't look comfortable," Eve placed her hand on mine, and I smiled at her.
"Nothing like that. You don't need to worry about anything. Even if it's something, I will handle it," I pulled Eve’s cheeks softly before looking ahead.
Feeling this Alpha's constant stare on the back of my head as if he wanted to bore holes wasn't one of the pleasant feelings, but as long as he wasn't disturbing me, I was okay with it.
"Why are you not taking notes?" He whispered in my ear, and I almost had a heart attack at his sudden proximity.
"What the hell?" I mouthed to him, and he just smirked, making me sigh.
"I am not taking notes because the processor always shares them after every class," I answered as politely as I could to my enemy, who was right now the inspecting officer at the University.
"Are you going on the trip at the end of the weekend?" He asked, his hot breath fanning my neck, making me want to tilt my head as the desire started to take over once again.
"Yeah, why?" I asked when the lights of the room were turned off for the presentation, and the alpha immediately came closer to me.
Since he wasn't here to study, he removed the bench long ago and was right behind me, making him even closer to me.
"Nothing. I might join too," the alpha whispered to my left ear, his lips grazing my earlobe, and I was thankful we were at the corner and last in rows, or everyone would've seen what this man was doing despite the darkness.
"Okay," I hummed.
"Do you have any questions?" The professor asked as soon as the lights turned back on, and I raised my head, concentrating back on my studies.
And I must tell you, it was becoming really hard to do that.
"Yes, Miss Valerie," The professor nodded at me to continue.
"If Botulinum Toxin is one of the deadliest toxins in the world with only 1 nm causing human death, why is Botox treatment normalized? Shouldn't it be banned?" I asked, and the professor looked at me before smiling.
"Well, you see, not everyone is as beautiful as you, Ms. Valerie. Some people use these measures to keep their beauty," the professor looked at me amused, and everyone started chuckling, making me smile helplessly.
"Let's discuss it during lunch. This is a good question. You can come to the dean's room. He would be thrilled to be a part of this. Finally, a student is showing interest in his favorite topics. He has high knowledge about poisons," The professor said, and I nodded before sitting back.
"Why are you so excited when it comes to lethal things?" Monty whisper-yelled, and I was about to answer when the professor beat me to it.
"At least she is interested in something, Mr. Monty, unlike a few students I know, who are only interested in commenting," The professor said before he continued answering more questions, and I leaned back in my chair, not before flailing my tongue to Monty.
"The class is over. I want you to hand in your assignment about the searches of the diseases, their drugs, and their basic components by the end of this week before that field trip. This will affect your final exams grades too," the professor left, and I was about to stand when the alpha's hand on my shoulder reminded me he was still there.
"Are you not coming?" Blue looked at me, concerned now.
"I will be there after I have a decent talk with this man," I said.
"You sure you don't want us here?" Monty asked, giving a weird look to Ambrose, and I smiled inwardly.
This guy doesn't know that this Alpha here can kill him with his finger.
"I will manage. Wait for me at our spot," I said, and they nodded before leaving.
Once I made sure everyone had left, I turned to the alpha, widening my eyes when I saw how close he had gotten.
I swear if I lean a little more, we would end up kissing and -
I shook my head to get out of the thoughts.
"What is it that you need, Mr. Alpha?" I asked before standing and going to the window.
"I want to know you, Valerie," He answered before he leaned on me, caging me between his arms from behind.
Though his chest wasn't touching my back, I could feel his heat and fast-beating heart, and it was enough for me to blush and my heart to increase its pace. At least, I am not the only one with the same reaction to our proximity.
"I don't see why you would want to do that. Just like the other rogues, I am a regular rogue who wants to improve her life positively. Is that so hard to digest?" I turned around to look into his eyes, my breathing becoming uneven when he stepped even closer.
"Yes. It's hard to digest. I have never met a rogue like you who has this allure to her. You might think I am taking advantage of my power, but that is not the case here. I genuinely want to know you. You make me feel free," He confessed, and the honesty in his eyes scared me.
"You are making a mistake, Alpha. I am not easy to be around. I have been thrown out of my pack because they thought I might make their life a little hell," I looked away, and he cupped my face, forcing me to look at him with wide eyes.
"I don't remember when I told you I care about what others say. You are different, and that's all I care about. If you are harmful to my pack or me, I will kill you with my bare hands, but till then, I want to know you," the alpha said without sugarcoating words, and I didn't know if I should be happy or scared.
This guy was practically telling me he would kill me if I made a single mistake, and rather than fearing him, I felt my heart skip a beat. His words turned me on. I never knew I was into toxic masculinity.
"You are being too ahead of yourself," I tried to break free from his cage.
His words were too good to be true. Why would an alpha want to know more about me? This is just a trap. Besides, he said any mistake would make him kill me.
What will he do when he knows I am cursed? This curse is not going to go anywhere.
I shook my head at the fantasies that I was starting to build involuntarily.
"Let me go," I looked into his eyes.
"Not so easily, sunshine. I know you are scared about the possibilities, but if you are not wrong, you have nothing to be scared about. I promise you that I would never hurt you if it isn't your fault," The alpha said before he bent to my eye level and kissed my cheeks, making my heart almost leap in my mouth.
"Let me in," he looked into my eyes intensely before he leaned further, and I knew I had all the right and chance to turn my head, but for some reason, I didn't.
I kept gazing into his grey-stormy eyes that turned from intense to careful before he stopped only a cm away from my lips.
"I will take it slow with you. I don't want to mess up and scare you," he rubbed his nose on my nose before leaving the room, and I stood there, unsure about what happened just now.
I held the window sill, not believing my legs to keep my body balanced.
What the hell? What did he say? He is not serious, is he? If Logan heard I went ahead even after knowing the risk, he would give me an earful again.
