Chapter Eighty-Nine

Delanie POV

“We’re getting out of this damn house,” Ajax marched into the house as Gale’s body was wheeled into an ambulance.

“Ajax,” I called.

He was too fast for me. He got to our room and pulled out the suitcases.

“Slow down. We can’t just move.”

“Yes, we can. I’ll find another house.”

“What if it follows us there? Are we going to move again?”

“What do you want Delanie? We can’t stay here. That thing killed Gale and it’s in our daughter’s room.”

“We have to get rid of it permanently then. I know you’re upset—”

“I’m fucking furious!” He threw his arms in the air.

“An axe didn’t work. A fire didn’t work and magic didn’t work. What the hell does it want?”

“We’ll figure it out.” I wrapped my arms around his middle. He held me tightly and exhaled.

“I’d rather have enemies I can pummel than this.”

“We’ll talk to someone else. Someone with more experience.”

“You’re right, mate. I have to make some calls. Why don’t you make sure your Mom and Annika are okay?”

I nodded. “Don’t do anything crazy.”

He smirked. “I’ll try not to burn down the house.”

I went outside. The front lawn was a mess. There were people everywhere. The Pack doctor was here the betas were everywhere! Alexandra had taken Annika to the back of the house where there weren’t many people.

“Del!” Shaina waved me over.

The ambulance just drove off.

“Geez what’s going on here?”

I lifted a shoulder. “Long story but it’s moon magic. Are you familiar with it?”

Her eyes went wide. “You guys have been dabbling with moon magic?”

“No, that thing just came out of nowhere!”

“There has to be something wrong. Moon magic doesn’t just attach itself to a house. There’s always a reason.”

“Ajax and I have to find that reason.”

Maybe we could talk to Betty’s aunt. She seemed very powerful.

“Anyway I—” Shaina paused as if she was about to sneeze then she cupped her mouth and ran off.

She rushed to her car but it was obscured by another vehicle.

“Del, I came as soon as Ross told me,” Ainsley said, wrapping me in her arms. “Where’s Annika?”

“With my Mom.”

Ainsley nodded and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. “A lot’s been happening huh?”

“You have no idea.”

“Hey, what’s up with Shaina?”

We watched her hold the black car obscuring her vehicle for support. She looked like she was going to pass out.

“I don’t know. She just ran off… she looks pale I think she was throwing up.”

“Morning sickness? Oh my goodness.”

“Shh! Ainsley, I didn’t say that.”

Ainsley shrugged but we dropped the conversation when Shaina came back.

“I forgot something in my car. If you need to bring Annika to the clinic for a check-up, I’ll clear my schedule.”

I nodded. “That’ll be great.”

She smiled at us before she gingerly walked back to her car and drove off. Ainsley shook her head and frowned suspiciously.

“Why did she lie?”

“She’s been acting weird lately.”

“Do you think she’s pregnant?”

“Oh, Ainsley, I don’t know. It’s great if she is but I think she’s hiding something deeper than that but then…” I recalled what Ajax told me when we drove back to the hotel.

Ainsley grabbed my shoulders and shook me. “But what? Tell me everything!”

“Ajax said she’s sleeping with Oscar… what if that’s his baby?”

Ainsley cupped her mouth and her eyes went wide. “Does she have a death sentence? Then again Shaina’s carrying the heir to the Pack!”

“Okay let’s not get carried away.”

I couldn’t fathom why Shaina would get involved with Oscar. There’s nothing charming about him. He slightly resembled his brother but they were totally different. Ajax was responsible, carrying with a deadly ruthless streak but he was a great leader too. I’ll always believe Odin made a mistake by choosing Oscar to be Alpha. I’ll never forget the day Ajax saved me. He didn’t have to but he did. He never stopped fighting for me. He was always there for me and I wanted to be there for him too.

“Hey, I need to head to the Pack House,” Ajax said. “I’ve got to figure out this mess Oscar created with the other Pack.”

“I’m coming with you.”

He chuckled. “Stay here, babe.”

“I’m coming for moral support. I’m not asking either.”

“I’ll stay with Annika. I missed her so much!”

Ajax exhaled deeply. “Alright, mate. Let’s go.”

Great! We both climbed into the car.

“Why are you so adamant about coming with me?” Ajax asked.

“You’re always there for me. I know this is Pack business and I barely know anything about it but I just want to support the man I love.”

He leaned across the console and closed his lips on mine.

“You’re amazing. Once this is over you and I are going somewhere nice and having our mating ceremony.”

“You mean it?”

He grinned. “Of course. I want it to be official.”

“Sounds awesome!”

My head was filled with a thousand things, like what I would wear and how I would do my hair. Ajax was parked in front of the Pack House. Shaina’s car was parked there too.

“What’s she doing here?” I asked.

“She’s Oscar’s doctor, remember?”

I have to admit Shaina has to be crazy for sleeping with Oscar because when Reign finds out about the baby if there is a baby then there might be another murder.

“You don’t have to be inside for the meeting. Things might get ugly,” he squeezed my thigh.

I nodded. “Okay, I want to make a call anyway.”

He drew me and kissed me. “Okay.”

We climbed out of the car at the same time. Ajax marched into the house while I dialled Betty’s number.

“Hey,” she answered after the first ring.

“I need a favour. We need to speak to your Aunt it’s urgent.”

“Oh is everything okay?”

“No, it’s not. We have a moon magic problem and we don’t know why.”

“Moon magic’s tricky and it’s never good.”

“I have to warn you, Betty, that thing killed the witch we hired!”

“My Aunt’s a seasoned witch, don’t worry,” Betty said confidently.

Betty said she would talk to her aunt and would let me know when to come over. While Ajax was inside I decided to check on Ainsley. She answered after the first ring.

“How’s everything going?”

“Hmm… fine. Your Mum’s very fond of Annika isn’t she?” Ainsley sounded off but I couldn’t explain why.

“I guess so. They bonded really quickly.”

“That’s what I thought! But she won’t let the baby out of her sight. Don’t you think it’s weird?”

“Weird? I don’t know….”

“It could be nothing, Delanie. Annika’s fine she’s asleep in your Mom’s room.”

Ainsley might have said it was nothing but my chest tightened with worry.
