Chapter 22 Levi
~Logan's pov~
The apartment was a mess not in the way of scattered clothes or dirty dishes around,no! That kind of mess didn't bother me. This was a different kind of mess, the silence was suffocating, the apartment was empty, the emptiness suffocated me in a way I wasn't used to.
Ava was gone. I should have seen it coming but now that she has already left, I don't feel good now.
I ran a hand through my hair,my grip tightening at the roots. This was ridiculous. I had no right to feel this way towards her but I couldn't help myself.
But I knew better! My kind of life didn't allow me to have the privilege of letting someone in… not until my father is out of the picture.
A sharp knock on the door. Yanked me out from my wandering thoughts.
Who's it now?
With a heavy sigh I pushed myself from the couch and made my way to the door. Levi stood there, arms crossed eyebrows raised in amusement.
Levi looked exactly like me, he's my younger brother but we've always treated each other like twins. Others said I'm stoic, cold and emotionless, wait until you meet Levi.
“Wow!" He said, stepping inside without an invitation. “You look like shit".
“Good to see you too Levi" I muttered, shutting the door behind him.
He took a quick look around the apartment, noticing the way the apartment looks. He let out a whistle then turned to me “messier than usual. What's up with you Logan?".
“Nothing"
Levi scoffed, dropping onto the couch and propping his feet up the coffee table.”Right!and I'm Donald trump".
I wasn't in the mood for his sarcasm and harsh words. Me and Levi have a lot in common we were both born in the same month and day but sometimes I wonder where the fuck did he get that damn sharp ?
What do you expect from a Scorpio?!
I sank into the couch across from him rubbing my temple”why are you here Levi?"
“Thought I'd check how my dear brother is doing lately. You haven't been answering my calls". He leaned forward studying me with his sharp brown eyes that could figure out more than he should. “Did something happen?"
Before I could tell him anything, another knock echoed through the apartment.
I frowned. I wasn't expecting anyone now! Who could it be?
Levi raised an eyebrow.”you getting secret visitors now?"
“Shut up and get the door! You're giving me a headache Levi". I grumbled.
Levi stood and walked over pulling the door open without hesitation. “Yeah?"
A familiar voice answered soft but firm ”uh… hi. I was here earlier tutoring Logan and I think I left something behind”.
My head snapped faster than I could imagine.
Ava?!!
Levi of course had no clue who she was. But I was glad she came back but why did she come back? Did she come back for good now? I was having a million thoughts in just a few seconds.
Levi glanced over his shoulder, clearly waiting for me to say something or even explain but instead I gave him one. I stood and walked towards the door.
“Ava" I said, meeting her gaze “come in"
She hesitated for a moment before stepping inside her eyes scanning the room. “I think I left my notebook. I was in a rush when I packed up earlier".
I nodded and she started searching for her notebook.
As she moved past me, Levi leaned in slightly to me and murmured “she's cute".
I shot him a look that told him to shut the hell up.
Ava found her notebook and she clutched it to her chest. “Thanks," she said, offering a small smile. “I'll get going now".
Before she could leave I gestured towards Levi. “This is my brother, Levi".
Levi smirked, giving her a once over look before nodding. “Nice to meet you nerd!".
Ava rolled her eyes “Oh! Great, another one"
I fought the urge to smirk. Levi just chuckled “she's got a mouth. I like her".
I was left there shocked. Levi doesn't talk to people and always has a bitch resting face. For him to say he likes Ava is a miracle.
Ava ignored him and turned to me “Well…thanks again. See you around Logan”.
And turned to Levi " And you too Levi,Mr sharp mouth”.
And just like that she was gone.
As soon as the door clicked shut, Levi turned to me, arms crossed, a smug grin tugging at his lips.
" So” he said, " are we going to pretend that you don't like her? Or should I say you don't like each other?”
I glared at him " Shut up Levi”.
He just laughed, stretching out on the couch like he had all the time in the world. " Man, you're so screwed”.
Levi’s smirk faded as he stretched his arms behind his head, his gaze turning serious. "By the way," he muttered, "Dad’s been calling me non-stop."
Every muscle in my body tensed.
"What?" My voice was sharp, my hands curling into fists.
Levi sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. "Yeah. Started a few days ago. I ignored him, obviously, but he’s persistent. Left a few messages, too."
A slow, cold anger burned in my chest. Our father never called without a reason, and it was never a good one.
I stepped closer to Levi, scanning him. "Did he send someone?"
Levi frowned. "No."
"You sure?" I grabbed his arm, then his other, turning him around as I checked for any bruises, cutting any sign that our father had tried to get to him in a way Levi wouldn’t admit.
Levi huffed, but he let me. "Damn, Logan, I’m fine."
I wasn’t convinced. I lifted his shirt slightly, checking his ribs. No bruises. No marks good! But Still, my jaw clenched. "You would tell me if something happened, right?"
"Obviously," Levi scoffed, yanking his shirt down. "Look, I don’t know why he’s suddenly interested in me. Maybe he finally realized I exist." His tone was light, but I knew better.
The world may recognize our father as a multi millionaire CEO and a company owner but we knew better.
I swallowed hard, then without thinking I pulled him into a tight hug.
Levi, he's the only family I have left.
Levi stiffened for a second before letting out a deep breath. "Damn, you’re really worried, huh?"
"Shut up," I muttered, my grip tightening. "If he lays a finger on you…"
"He won’t," Levi interrupted. "Not unless he wants to deal with you."
He wasn’t wrong. If our father tried anything, I wouldn’t hesitate.
I wouldn't hesitate to beat the shit out of him if he tries to lay a hand on Levi.
After a moment, I pulled back, still gripping his shoulders. "Don’t answer his calls. If he keeps pushing, tell me, you have to tell me Levi. This is serious!”
Levi nodded, then smirked. "You’re soft, you know that?"
I rolled my eyes, shoving him toward the couch. "Get lost."
He just laughed. "Not a chance, big bro."
