Chapter 223: She and I Are Mother and Daughter

Sloane's POV

Brandon was running around in circles, his hands trembling violently. Suddenly, as if grabbing onto a lifeline, he looked up. "What about Christian? Yes, call Christian! He has this blood type too!"

"Brandon, Christian went out of town for an academic conference. We already contacted him, and he's on his way back, but it'll take at least three hours for him to get here. There's no time!" the assistant beside him reminded anxiously.

Three hours—for a critically ill patient who had lost too much blood, that was basically a death sentence.

Brandon clenched his jaw, a flash of determination in his eyes, and turned to roar at the bodyguards, "Go drag Keira and Isabelle back here! They have this blood type too. Make them donate!"

Within minutes, Keira and Isabelle, who had just been kicked out, were dragged back by the bodyguards.

When she learned they needed to draw blood to save someone, Keira's face went pale, but intimidated by Brandon's fury, she nervously nodded with a guilty tremor.

But Isabelle exploded like a cat whose tail had been stepped on.

"I won't do it! Why should I give my blood!" Isabelle screamed, struggling desperately, her delicate features twisted and distorted by extreme selfishness. "Drawing that much blood will make me faint! And the needle marks will leave scars—I have a socialite gala to attend next week! She's the one who wanted to kill herself, why should I sacrifice myself for her!"

These utterly selfish and heartless words made everyone present gasp.

"You bastard!" Brandon was shaking with rage, his finger pointing at Isabelle trembling violently.

His chest heaved dramatically. Unable to catch his breath, his eyes rolled back and he fell straight backward.

"Brandon!" I reacted quickly, and Jared and I caught him steadily.

Brandon gasped for air in large gulps. After recovering from that dizzy spell, he completely gave up. He pointed toward the elevator, too disgusted to even look at them. "Throw these two bastards out of the hospital! From now on, never let me see them again!"

The bodyguards immediately covered Isabelle's still-screaming mouth and forcibly dragged the selfish mother and daughter away.

Looking at the red light above the emergency room door that seemed like it could go out at any moment, I took a deep breath and turned to the doctor who was sweating with anxiety. "Take mine. I'm also Rh-negative O type."

"Sloane!" Jared's expression changed dramatically. He grabbed my wrist, his deep black eyes full of undisguised concern and disapproval. He knew better than anyone that I had just barely escaped death in Berlin, and with back-to-back surgeries plus a long flight, my body was already extremely weak.

"Jared, saving her is what matters." I gripped his cold hand back, my eyes calm and determined. "I'm a doctor, I know my limits. If Jones doesn't make it through today, Brandon won't survive either."

Jared's jawline was terribly tense. He stared at me for several seconds, finally compromising with a sigh.

He pulled me forcefully into his arms and kissed my forehead tenderly. "Okay, I'll go with you."

I followed the nurse to the lab and donated two full bags of blood. When the needle was pulled out, my vision went slightly dark. Jared immediately scooped me up and gently placed me on the couch in the rest room, carefully holding the cotton swab to stop the bleeding.

About twenty minutes later, the lab director came running over with a report, his expression extremely complicated and even somewhat shocked.

"The blood has been sent to the emergency room." The director swallowed, his gaze moving back and forth between Professor Brandon and me, hesitant to speak.

"What is it? Is something wrong with Sloane's body?" Jared's eyes instantly turned cold, his tall frame immediately blocking me.

"No, it's not that..." The director took a deep breath and handed the report to us, his voice trembling slightly from extreme shock. "When we did the blood cross-matching, we found... we found that Dr. Sloane's blood not only matches Jones perfectly, but also, multiple genetic markers in the blood show high correlation. The system automatically ran a kinship comparison..."

The director paused, then dropped a bombshell that could stun everyone.

"The comparison results show that Dr. Sloane and Jones have a direct blood relationship. From a genetic perspective, you two... are very likely biological mother and daughter!"

My brain went completely blank, as if a thunderbolt had exploded right next to my ear, making my eardrums ring.

Mother and daughter? Jones... is my mother?!

I sat frozen on the couch, the blood in my body seeming to completely solidify in that moment.

From my earliest memories, I was an unwanted orphan at the orphanage, then I was taken back, and Isabelle said she was my mother, but her behavior toward me was nothing like a mother's. I had imagined countless times—what if Isabelle wasn't really my mother?

"What did you say?!" Professor Brandon's eyes widened in disbelief. He rushed forward and snatched the report. His thin fingers trembled violently as he stared at the data, his eyes instantly turning red. "How is this possible... Jones's child back then was stillborn... how could..."

"Run a DNA paternity test immediately!" Jared was the first to calm down. He pulled my rigid body tightly into his arms and commanded the director in a tone that brooked no argument. "Use the highest priority express channel. I want to see the most accurate results in the shortest time possible!"

"Yes! I'll do it right away!" The director wiped the cold sweat from his brow and hurried off with the blood sample.

The long wait felt like several centuries of torture. I leaned against Jared's warm embrace, my mind a complete mess, even breathing felt oppressive.

Professor Brandon stood like a stone statue, staring fixedly at the emergency room door, clutching that blood report tightly, his lips trembling constantly.

Finally, at midnight, the glaring red light above the emergency room door went out.

The attending physician came out exhausted, removing his mask. "The resuscitation was successful. Jones is out of danger, but she still needs to be observed in the ICU for a few days."

Everyone's hearts, which had been hanging in the air, finally settled.

Just then, urgent and chaotic footsteps came from the end of the corridor.

Christian rushed over, looking travel-worn.

He hadn't even had time to put on his suit jacket, his tie was crooked, his face full of undisguised panic and anxiety. "Grandfather, how is Jones?!"

"Her life was saved, the situation has stabilized."

Christian leaned against the wall in relief, covering his face with both hands, letting out a long breath, his taut nerves finally relaxing.

Professor Brandon turned around and looked at me with an extremely complicated expression.

In his weathered eyes, joy, shock, disbelief, and deep compassion were all intertwined.

He walked with heavy steps to Christian and handed him the blood test report that had been crumpled from being clutched so tightly.

"Christian, Jones is fine." Brandon's voice was terribly hoarse, each word seeming to suppress the stormy waves in his heart. "But there's something you must know immediately."

Christian looked up in confusion and took the report. "What is this?"

"Jones had massive bleeding earlier, the blood bank ran out, and it was Sloane who donated blood to her." Brandon took a deep breath, his gaze moving back and forth between Christian and me, finally settling on Christian's shocked face. He spoke deliberately, word by word. "The blood test results show that Sloane and Jones... are very likely biological mother and daughter."
