Chapter 144: George is the Jealous Type

When it came to this, Isabella thought Sierra was just getting older without getting any smarter.

Elodie sighed. "What's the point of her getting a diploma? Being a mistress doesn't need a degree. With that effort, she might as well find a rich guy to marry."

"Maybe she wants to be a high-class mistress," Isabella chuckled.

Elodie laughed. "A mistress is still a mistress. What's the difference?"

"You mean she's coming back to get her diploma too? Are we gonna see her again?"

"That's what I heard."

"Great, just our luck."

A tall, sweaty guy ran up to them. "Which one of you is Isabella?"

Isabella pointed to herself, confused. "That's me. What's up?"

"Someone's looking for you at the gate," the guy said, wincing. "He said his name is Adrian."

"Got it. Thanks."

Elodie knew almost everyone Isabella knew, but she didn't know Adrian. "Who's he?"

Isabella replied, "He's George's cousin."

"Why's he looking for you?"

"How would I know?"

As Isabella walked out, she told Elodie, "Grab me some food. I'll find you later."

"Sure thing."

Isabella reached the school gate and saw Adrian by his car from a distance. "Adrian."

Adrian stubbed out his cigarette and crushed it under his foot. "Hope I'm not bothering you."

"No, do you need something?"

Adrian opened the back door of his car and took out a box of desserts, handing it to her. "George mentioned you like the desserts from this place, so I brought you some."

Isabella was puzzled. "Did George ask you to bring this to me?"

"Not really, I just remembered it while passing by and bought it."

His words left Isabella a bit confused. "Thanks, Adrian, but I've got a toothache lately and can't eat sweets. Why don't you take it back and give it to Thalia?"

"No worries, you can eat it when your toothache is gone, or share it with your friends. Just take it."

Isabella felt awkward.

"It's just a dessert, something I picked up on the way," Adrian said, pushing the dessert into Isabella's hands. "Alright, you go back to class. I'll head off."

After Adrian left, Isabella looked down at the dessert in her hands, deep in thought.

The dessert was placed in front of Elodie. She glanced at the label. "No way, this is the signature dessert from that place. You need to book it three days in advance. Where did you get it?"

Isabella said, "Just eat it."

"Did Adrian give it to you?" Elodie unwrapped the dessert, scooped a bite with a small spoon, and put it in her mouth. It melted instantly, delicious. "No wonder it's famous, it's really good."

Isabella couldn't figure out why Adrian went out of his way to bring her this dessert.

"You should have some too," Elodie said, offering a spoonful to Isabella's lips. "Open up."

Isabella had no appetite. She didn't dare eat something that seemed suspicious. "You eat it."

Elodie redirected the spoon to her own mouth. "You should be cautious about unsolicited kindness."

Isabella rested her chin on her hand, glancing at Elodie in confusion. "Maybe it's not that complicated."

"True, maybe he really was just passing by and bought a dessert to keep up family ties."

But it didn't sit right with her.

"Didn't you say this dessert needs to be booked three days in advance? It probably wasn't just a casual stop." Isabella shook her head, dismissing the idea.

Elodie slapped the table. "Then he just wants to impress you."

"But why?" Isabella was baffled.

"To get you to put in some good words about him to George? Doesn't seem necessary. Why don't you ask George to figure it out?"

"Last time, just because he was a bit too close to me at a party, George got really mad. I wouldn't dare bring this up to him again." Isabella shook her head vigorously.

"George is the jealous type." Elodie laughed heartily.

Isabella sighed lightly. "Let's just say he was passing by."

The next day at noon, when Isabella went out, she ran into Adrian at the school gate again.

He seemed to be waiting for someone. Isabella tried to avoid him, but he saw her. "Isabella."

Isabella closed her eyes briefly, then turned around with a forced smile. "What a coincidence, Adrian."

"Quite a coincidence. Where are you headed? I'll give you a ride."

"No need. I'm just going to the store up ahead to buy some paint. I'll be off then."

"Wait a moment," Adrian said, opening his car door and taking out a beautifully wrapped gift box. "This is for you."

Isabella didn't know what was inside and instinctively refused, "I can't accept it."

"I didn't get you a gift at the last party. Consider this a make-up."

The last party wasn't anything special, and a gift wasn't necessary. Isabella said, "Really, you don't have to do this."

"Take it, it's not expensive. If you don't like it, you can give it to Frederick as a toy."

With that, Isabella felt it would be rude not to accept. "Adrian, you really don't have to be so polite. We're family. Whether you give a gift or not, I understand your goodwill. I'll accept this one, but please don't bring any more next time."

Reluctantly, Isabella accepted Adrian's gift.

Isabella thought she couldn't just accept the gift without reciprocating. She planned to find an opportunity to give him a gift in return and call it even.

The next day, the gatekeeper called her to pick up something. She hadn't ordered anything online or gotten any takeout, so she couldn't figure out what it could be.

"Isabella, right? There's a gift for you." The gatekeeper handed her a beautifully wrapped gift bag with a delicate gift box inside.

Isabella took it and saw it was a box of lipstick. "Who sent it?"

"A tall, skinny guy with glasses. Quite handsome. He insisted I deliver it to you personally," the gatekeeper said proudly, shaking the money in his hand. "He was very generous with the tip too."

He had never received a fifty-dollar tip in his life.

Isabella guessed it was Adrian. "What's his name?"

The gatekeeper pointed to the gift bag. "There's a card inside. Check it out."

Isabella reopened the gift bag and, sure enough, there was a card inside.
