Chapter 193
"What's wrong with that? You've always wanted to be with me before, wanted me to dump that bitch. Now Uncle James has married her, and we have no burden at all. Isn't this a win-win situation?"
On the way back, Chase kept thinking that he'd racked his brains trying to get rid of Sophia before because he was the one who betrayed her. But now Sophia was with James—Sophia had become the betrayer.
Even if people found out about him and Veda later, he'd have an excuse. After all, Sophia was the one who got married behind his back first. The more he thought about it, the more he felt he'd gotten the better end of the deal.
Veda's face turned dark, her hands clenched into tight fists.
"Chase, you're so shortsighted. You've never really thought about me at all. If Sophia really marries James, she won't be my sister anymore—she'll become my aunt. How am I supposed to accept that?"
Chase had a careless, grinning expression as he stepped forward to comfort her.
"Veda, you're overthinking this. We the Smith family don't get together that often. Even if Sophia and Uncle James are together, we won't necessarily see each other much. Besides, sister or aunt—it's just a title, no big deal."
Not getting what she wanted, Veda was furious. Looking at Chase's pathetic state now, she was about to lose it.
"Chase, get out! You didn't do what I asked, so get out of my sight. Go as far away as possible. I will never be with you."
"As long as I'm not with you, Sophia will always be my sister. I'll always be the eldest daughter of the Brown family, and she'll just be the second daughter."
Hearing this, Chase immediately panicked. He quickly followed behind Veda.
"Veda, please don't make a scene. My grandfather already knows about us. I was relieved about that."
He'd had a marriage arrangement with Sophia, and he didn't know how to explain his thing with Veda to his family. Now that Sophia was married, he didn't have to deal with that problem anymore.
Chase stepped forward to grab Veda's hand, but she shook him off.
"Chase, please stay away from me from now on. I don't like useless men like you. We've broken up now. If you keep bothering me, that's called sexual harassment."
Chase thought he could just sweet-talk Veda like he always did, but he didn't expect her to be serious this time.
He immediately got angry, his face turning cold as he glared at Veda.
"Veda, I find it strange—what does Sophia marrying Uncle James have to do with you? Your reaction right now is really odd. If I'm not mistaken, you wanted me to break them up so you could marry Uncle James yourself, didn't you?"
Chase had actually noticed Veda's little schemes all along, he just never called her out on them.
Veda's face went pale at these words. She never expected Chase not only knew her little thoughts but was now saying them straight out.
Veda blinked guiltily.
"Chase, what are you talking about? I just think you're too weak as a man. Otherwise, why would I break up with you?"
"Don't shift the blame for your weakness onto other reasons, okay?"
Chase snorted coldly.
"Veda, do you really think I don't know what you're thinking? You tried every way to get me to go to the Smith family and break up Sophia and Uncle James. Your goal was to be with Uncle James yourself, wasn't it?"
As Chase spoke, he reached out to hold Veda's hand, his tone both indulgent and threatening.
"Veda, you don't need to lie to me. Your eyes light up every time you see Uncle James. I've noticed all of this. But let me tell you, Uncle James has a difficult personality—not every woman catches his eye."
"Especially since everyone in our the Smith family knows about us. Even if he doesn't want Sophia now, he won't want you either."
As Chase said this, his hand moved from Veda's hand toward her cheek.
Veda was already upset that Sophia was with Chase, and now being looked down on by Chase like this made her even angrier.
She pushed Chase aside.
"Chase, what do you mean by that? Are you saying I'm not good enough for James? Let me tell you, that guess was just your own narrow-mindedness, not reality. How could I possibly want to marry James?"
"Besides, whether I'm good enough for James isn't for you to say. Others may not know you, but don't I? Your position in the Smith family is barely significant."
Chase dared to say she wasn't good enough for James—Veda thought she was the one who found Chase useless. Now the two of them started putting each other down.
Chase's eyes widened—he didn't expect Veda to say such things.
"Veda, say that again if you dare. No matter what, I'm still part of the Smith family. If you stay with me, maybe I'll marry you in the future. You'd better not be ungrateful. If you keep making a scene like this, I won't have the patience to humor you anymore."
Chase had been patient with Veda before because he wasn't done playing around. But now Veda was being so unreasonable, trying every way to make him cause trouble in front of Aiden.
No matter how bold Chase was, he wouldn't dare offend James and Aiden over a woman. He still wanted to live peacefully in the Smith family in the future.
Veda was stunned. She really didn't expect Chase to say such things to her now.
Before she could say anything, Chase issued another threat.
"Veda, let me tell you, you're the one who said we should break up today. I'm giving you one week. If you come back to me, we'll keep dating. If you don't come back, then don't even think about stepping through the door of our the Smith family ever again."
After saying this, Chase got in his car and left the Brown Villa.
Chase drove fast all the way. When he left the Smith Manor, he'd been very uneasy inside. He felt that Aiden's anger today had some deeper meaning.
