Chapter 14: Greta, This Is All Your Fault!
Not even a pin drop could be heard in the room after those words fell.
Dumbfounded, the woman let her guard down and was grabbed on both hands by security.
At this, she began kicking and cussing, “That’s because you took the words right out of my mouth!”
“Had you waited a little longer, you would’ve heard me say I didn’t see any mail from you. You’re a leader, how could you be so impatient!”
Amber thinned her lips, resisting the urge to chuckle as she admired the woman’s thick skin.
Well, she expected nothing less from someone who stood and accused the MD of faking his position.
And even after finding out he was really who he said he was, she simply continued lying, knowing she was already too deep in her lies to tell the truth.
Caught in the midst of this was Greta.
She was eager to please one of them. Any of them.
As the woman continued to insist she was the president, Greta began the harbor the thought that the MD could be wrong.
After all, she had watched interviews of him and knew for a fact that he and the president hadn’t met before.
“S-sir, didn’t you say in a few interviews that you’ve never met the president before? Accusing her of being an imposter without even confirming might get you in trouble later, don’t you think?”
Amber almost laughed, not at all surprised that her heart was being swayed again.
On the other hand, Micah tilted his head, his irritated eyes boring into the unfamiliar woman. “Who are you?”
Greta blinked, pointing at herself as she retorted slowly, “M-me? Greta. Greta Foster.”
“Sir, her brother is Aaron Foster, the owner of Shine Production House,” James butted in from the side, careful not to mention she was a Z-lister.
Micah rarely cared for gossip, but Aaron was a known producer, someone people respected for making great films on tight budgets.
Though he hasn’t officially won awards, people in the entertainment world knew him.
Micah glanced at him stoically, “So she’s a Z-lister.”
“Yeah, but her brother is Aaron Foster.”
“Who?”
“Oh, he makes really amazing films and he’s excellent at managing budgets.”
Micah really didn’t know who that was.
But that was why he had James. The social butterfly.
Thus, he shifted his attention from Greta, settling it on the imposter again.
“James, did this woman really say she was the president or did you assume she was?”
The words were barely out of his mouth when the woman frowned. “I’m right here. What do you think you’re doing disrespecting me so openly?”
James gulped.
He had worked for Micah for two years and knew that tone, the one he only used when he wanted plain, straightforward truth.
So even with the president standing in front of him, he didn’t hesitate to point at Greta. “Greta Foster told me she’s the president.”
At this, Greta’s face instantly paled. “What? You believed me without investigating. How is it my fault she might not be the president?”
“I didn’t believe you immediately, but you said her clothes, shoes and bags were expensive, so she had to be the president. Had you not made such a convincing argument, I never would’ve taken your word for it!” James snapped back.
Greta gritted her teeth. “So it’s my fault now that you’re gullible?”
“Who are you calling gullible?” he shot back, voice rising.
And just like that, the two turned on each other, screaming and trying to pin the blame on the other at the top of their lungs.
Beside them, the impostor panicked and involuntarily took a step back at the heat of the argument.
If the two people who had been backing her suddenly turned on one another, how was she supposed to convince Micah?
She glanced at the other Z-listers.
Just a moment ago, they’d been vying for her favor, but now, they quickly averted their faces.
In their hearts, they each said a quick prayer, thankful that they hadn’t joined Greta in declaring this woman the president.
Clenching her jaw, the impostor lowered her eyes to the floor, deliberating.
Micah Dunlap was said to be unpredictable.
If she pushed on with this lie and he somehow confirmed she was lying, she’d be in big trouble.
Realizing now the risk far outweighed the gain, she made a silent decision and lifted her head.
“Order your goons to let go of me and once I get home, I will make sure to send a letter of termination with immediate effect!”
The corners of the man’s lips drew back into a smile and a deep chuckle reverberated through the quiet room. “You’ve got some nerve for a fraud.”
Pretending to be unfazed, despite the pounding in her ear, the woman hissed.
“That’s enough. Learn your place and don’t overstep your boundaries. We will meet again in court where you’ll pay dearly for this defamation!”
Greta realized, to her horror, something in that moment.
Twice in the space of a minute the woman had resolve the issue.
She recognised the desperate move. The same one she’d done a few times in the past after being accused of stealing by a low-level employee.
Thankfully, her long-standing relationship with the store came in handy and when she brought up the employees level, they believed her.
As the realisation gripped Greta, one of the Z-listers also caught on and began to yell at her.
“Greta, this is all your fault!”
