Chapter 48 I wasn’t trained to confess
Nicole’s POV
My mom has been vigilant in monitoring Gio, and I was relieved to witness her intimidating Gio’s doctor to disclose information about his medical condition.
Gio’s demeanor confirmed that the doctor had informed him of the threat, but only if he knew the woman had no choice.
I observed with joy, Gio’s clenched jaws, feeling a twinge of sympathy for his vulnerability, yet I couldn’t help but feel a sense of satisfaction at the advantage it gave me.
However, my satisfaction was short-lived when he pressed me after ending the call with his doctor, "What happened between you and Molly? If you lie to me again, there will be consequences."
Knowing Gio’s seriousness, it pained me to see how much he cared about Molly, to the extent that he was willing to make me face consequences if I didn’t come clean.
I dared to ask him, "Are you in love with her?" His expression was unwavering making it hard for me to detect a lie.
"That is none of your business. Tell me the truth now, or it's over," he warned, his gaze filled with anger.
A tear trickled down my cheek, but his expression remained impassive. Despite my inner turmoil, I recalled my mother’s teachings that without evidence, I should never admit to a wrongdoing. So, I continued to feign innocence.
"I would do anything for you, and yet you doubt me," I maintained eye contact, resorting to my last-ditch effort of seduction.
It wasn’t vanity to acknowledge my attractiveness; I had the physique of a model and worked diligently to maintain a desirable figure. My appearance was always appealing, but the one man I could never seem to captivate was Gio.
At times, I sensed a connection between us, but other times he seemed distant and unreadable.
What I didn’t expect, in his fit of anger, was when his hand struck my cheek, sending me tumbling to the floor with unexpected force.
The sting of his slap seared my skin as if it were ablaze as Gio stood over me, his eyes ablaze with anger, he demanded to know, "What did you do to Molly?"
My upbringing was unconventional, raised by Gio's parents after my own were caught in a gang feud. I was trained like a boy, learning to handle guns, smoke, and drink by the age of nineteen.
After turning eighteen, I underwent intense training and was eventually assigned to keep other women away from Gio.
However, I discovered a secret about him that changed everything. Gio's sexuality was influenced by a past accident, and despite my feelings for him, we had always maintained a close bond as he never pursued serious relationships.
The tragic attack occurred, resulting in the loss of many family members. Gio struggled to cope and was hospitalized for months.
During his hospitalization, I came across a photo of Molly in his wallet, sparking my determination to confront her, despite the lack of apparent connection between them.
Subsequently, Gio surprised everyone by announcing his marriage to Octavia, his late brother's fiancée, without providing any explanation.
Concerned for Octavia's safety, my mother advised keeping her away from Gio, but after the birth of Roger, Gio's behavior towards his son and mother changed significantly.
Gio kept Roger and his mother at a distance, frequented a club for his sexual gratification, and remained closed off from others, leading to complications in his life.
When rumors surfaced that he had fired Marie, his former secretary due to Molly's presence, my mother sent me to investigate.
Having previously worked with Gio's team, I had established good relationships with his employees, including his bodyguards who feared his mother and, by extension, respected me.
Despite my initial disbelief, it became apparent that Molly had a strong hold over Gio, surpassing even Octavia's influence.
From Mom's observations, he had been visiting the club less frequently lately, and it seemed to be because of Molly.
Why was he afraid of her? Gio wasn't even afraid of Mom, but what hurt me the most was seeing the man I had loved all my life tormenting me because of another woman.
This was the first time Gio had laid a hand on me, and I knew it was because of Molly. Tears welled up in the corners of my eyes as he leaned in, his demeanor imposing.
"What did you do to Molly?" I wasn't inclined to confess. I was prepared to die with the truth, and I would never reveal it to him since I had left no clues behind.
"Kill me if you don't believe me, Gio, and I promise that Mom will avenge me by getting rid of your little bitch," I dared him, holding onto the last shred of hope that he wouldn't.
No one was strong enough to withstand his mother's wrath, including him. Gio may not have been afraid, but that didn't mean he didn't value his peace.
His gaze was dark, and in the next moment, his fingers closed around my throat. His warning was more painful than the physical act of choking me because his words cut deep into my heart, reaching my soul.
