Chapter 372 It's Almost Over, and Soon I'll Be Free
After a bit, Oliver whispered, "I'll stick around, not going anywhere."
Sarah gave a faint smile. She didn't call out Oliver's awkward lie; instead, she played along, watching coolly as he acted like the perfect husband and dad.
She wasn't moved anymore; she knew a man's promises were just hot air.
Oliver stayed all day, even turned off his phone.
By dusk, Jacob was struggling to stay awake, his little head bobbing up and down. Finally, Oliver picked him up and said softly, "I'll take him home to sleep. I'll be back first thing in the morning."
Sarah stared at Oliver calmly. She could guess that after a whole day with his phone off, he was definitely heading to see Ellie tonight.
She still didn't call him out. As he was leaving, she softly said, "Remember, Jacob needs his bottle at night."
Oliver looked down at Jacob on his shoulder and replied, "I'll handle it. Don't worry!"
He took Jacob back to the villa.
As soon as Jacob lay down, he was out like a light. His little body was warm under the blanket, looking peaceful and beautiful. Oliver sat by the bed, caressing his face. He did love Jacob.
Jacob had Sarah's looks and Oliver's personality, making him the perfect son in every dad's eyes.
Looking at Jacob, Oliver turned on his phone. Throughout the day, he had 68 missed calls, 62 of which were from Ellie.
After thinking for a moment, Oliver called her back.
On the other end, Ellie was crying. She asked him in a sorrowful voice if he didn't want her anymore, if he was going to stop caring about her.
That night, Oliver drove out in a black Cayenne.
He forgot what Sarah had said, that Jacob needed a bottle at night. He also forgot his promise to stay with Jacob, to stay with their son. He left Jacob with the nanny.
In the middle of the night, Jacob woke up, sitting in the dark, crying in fear.
At the hospital, Zoey came to visit and stayed for a long time, offering comfort.
Under the light, Sarah, wearing a hospital gown, leaned against the headboard and softly said, "Zoey, do you believe what you're saying? Just now, I got a call from the nanny at home saying Jacob was crying and Mr. Windsor wasn't home. I think he must have gone to Ellie's place! Zoey, my marriage with him has long been broken. In fact, I don't blame Ellie for taking my husband. If it wasn't her, it would have been someone else. I deal with her because of Jacob, because she almost took Jacob's life. Zoey, Oliver doesn't love me, and he doesn't love Ellie either. He only loves his pathetic self-esteem. Jacob and I don't matter at all."
Zoey didn't want to believe it and softly said, "Maybe Mr. Windsor is in the study!"
Sarah didn't argue. She smiled faintly, a gentle expression that made Zoey feel pity.
She didn't sleep all night. Several times, Olivia came to check on her and cried in distress, "Mrs. Windsor, you're weak now. At least close your eyes and rest for a while. Mr. Windsor isn't home, but you need to take care of yourself. Jacob and Nicole are counting on you to raise them!"
Sarah softly reassured, "I know."
She looked outside; it was almost dawn.
Sarah softly said, "Olivia, get me a set of clothes and have the driver prepare the car. I need to go out."
Olivia was shocked, "Mrs. Windsor, where are you going at this hour?"
Sarah lowered her head, her long lashes trembling.
After a while, she forced a faint smile, "It's almost over, and soon I'll be free."
Olivia didn't understand her words.
But Olivia knew that Sarah had made up her mind. Just look at how she dared to cut off Ellie's leg and take her uterus. Olivia admired her greatly; it took a lot of courage.
Olivia called for the car and helped her change clothes.
Once dressed, Olivia took a dark cashmere scarf and wrapped it tightly around Sarah. Olivia said with concern, "Let me go with you. I just can't feel at ease."
Sarah gently held Olivia's hand, hesitated for a moment, and softly said, "This child is born with deficiencies. No matter what, I can't give birth to her in the end."
Hearing this, Olivia was extremely shocked, thinking, 'Oh my God! What had I just heard?'
Olivia looked at Sarah with a frightened gaze. Sarah smiled slightly, "We'll talk about everything when I get back."
With that, Sarah let go of Olivia and walked out of the ward without looking back.
