Chapter 324 I Really Won't Feel Sad
Oliver clutched his phone, but his voice was surprisingly steady, "I'll be right there."
He shot another glance at Grace and gently told her to head back.
Grace couldn't help but call out, "Oliver!"
But Oliver just opened the car door, got in, and floored it. In his mind, he saw Sarah's tear-streaked face. She had reminded him it was Jacob's birthday today, but as Mrs. Windsor, her dignity was crushed on this very day.
The Windsor Group headquarters was a madhouse. Reporters swarmed the place, making it impossible to move, and Zoey was barely holding it together.
Oliver was ruthless. As soon as he got back, he flipped the script by releasing a video of his chat with Ellie from that night in the lounge.
In the video, Ellie said, "He can't satisfy me at all! I don't need to be your wife; I just want to have sex with you."
Ellie's reputation tanked immediately, and the scandal shifted from an affair to a mutual need.
Ellie was scorned by everyone, and Oliver didn't come out unscathed either, but the heat was halved, easing the Windsor Group's PR nightmare.
Zoey set up a late-night snack after working until midnight.
Oliver sat in the president's office, staring at his phone. Since the incident, Sarah hadn't called once, nor had any of the household staff.
Sarah was eerily calm, like nothing had happened.
Oliver's fingers twitched; he wanted to call Sarah, to hear her voice, but in the end, he didn't.
He sat there until 1 AM before grabbing his car keys and heading home.
When he got back to the villa in the dead of night, the servants were still at the door. As they welcomed him in, they whispered, "Mrs. Windsor sat alone in the study for a long time after the incident this afternoon."
Oliver was silent for a moment before asking, "Did she have dinner?"
"Of course she did," the servant sighed softly, "Today is Jacob's birthday. No matter how upset Mrs. Windsor is, she would eat for Jacob's sake. Mrs. Windsor truly loves Jacob."
Oliver nodded, showing he understood, and slowly walked up the stairs to the second floor.
Sarah was sitting in the living room, knitting a sweater. It was for Jacob to wear when he turned 8.
Outside the window, the moonlight was hazy. She had stayed up late, her eyes red, but she didn't stop. She knitted the sweater tirelessly for Jacob, taking painkillers when her lower abdomen hurt, and resting on the bed when the pain became unbearable. Then, she continued knitting Jacob's sweater.
When she heard the sound of a car in the courtyard, she knew Oliver was back, but she didn't look up. She was so calm. Then the bedroom door was pushed open, and Oliver stood at the doorway, quietly gazing at her. His eyes held guilt and a trace of a desire for reconciliation.
Sarah looked at him and gave a bitter smile. She was no longer a naive young girl; she guessed his intentions.
Sure enough, under her gaze, Oliver slowly walked in, knelt in front of her, and gently touched the half-knitted sweater in her hands. His tone was extremely gentle as he said, "Is this for Jacob? Sarah, make one for me too."
Maybe his soul had wandered for too long, or maybe he truly wanted to return to his family, to his initial feelings. He slowly rested his head on Sarah's lap.
They had never been more like a couple than at this moment. But unfortunately, they had already missed it all.
Sarah lowered her gaze, quietly watching Oliver. She even gently placed her hand on the back of his neck. In the deep night, her face was serene as she softly said, "It's too late. All that's left between us is hatred and betrayal. I don't even remember when I started liking you, or when I stopped. Maybe it was back in Vesper City when I sensed you didn't really care about me, or maybe it was because I noticed other women around you."
She paused for a moment and then continued, "Oliver, I'm not some pampered princess. I grew up with Dylan, and I've been through tough times. I know who treats me right and who doesn't! You don't like me, so I don't want to like you. Marrying me was a lie, and my feelings were just an illusion. There was never any love between us, so how can we talk about fixing something that was never there?"
Sarah's words were gentle but cut deep. She figured if she didn't say them now, she might never get the chance.
After she finished, she gently moved aside and went back to knitting her sweater, shutting him out of her world.
She didn't love him, and she sure as hell didn't forgive him.
The scandal with Ellie didn't seem to faze her. She went about her life as usual, even going out to buy more yarn when she ran out, never caring about the gossip.
Oliver, on the other hand, came home every night but stopped forcing her into anything. Sometimes, he even slept in the study.
He thought that over time, Sarah would soften. After all, they had Jacob. He treated Jacob well, cherishing him dearly.
Half a month later, Sarah's health took a nosedive. Sometimes in the morning, she would cough up a lot of blood. She didn't seek treatment; she had given up on her life.
In the evening, Sarah sat in the courtyard, enjoying the breeze. Her slender figure had a delicate beauty in the twilight.
Olivia came over to cover her with a small blanket and softly said, "Ellie is here again! She insists on seeing you. I'll send her away."
Sarah was lost in thought. Ellie was here again; this was the third time.
She coughed and then stopped Olivia, saying, "Let her in."
Olivia disapproved, "I say you shouldn't let that shameless woman in. You really should go to the hospital and get checked out; this cough has lasted too long!"
Sarah waved her hand, saying it was nothing, and told Olivia to let Ellie in.
About five minutes later, Ellie came in. She was even thinner than Sarah, looking terrible.
As soon as they met, Ellie knelt in front of Sarah.
Ellie gritted her teeth, her whole body trembling, "Mrs. Windsor, I beg you to show mercy and spare me!"
Sarah was stunned for a moment, then her expression became dazed as she said, "Ms. Johnson, don't misunderstand. I let you in not because I want to hear your plea. In fact, I'm not interested in your and Oliver's affairs at all. If you want to plead, you shouldn't come to me. You should go to Oliver. He's the one dealing with you, not me."
Ellie shivered. She wanted to plead with Oliver, but she had no chance to see him.
Oliver was ruthless to her. He made her lose her job and pressured her boyfriend to abandon her. She had nothing left and could only come to Sarah.
Ellie least wanted to beg Sarah, but she wanted to live!
She looked up at Sarah. Though thin, Sarah had a serene aura. Oliver treated her ruthlessly must because he had truly fallen in love with Sarah.
Ellie gave a bitter smile, "But you can persuade him!"
She then said sharply, "As long as you ask him, he would give you anything now, let alone spare me!"
Sarah did not agree.
Ellie wanted to say more, but the sound of a car interrupted her. She turned sharply and saw Oliver getting out of the car.
After days of not seeing him, he was still as handsome as ever. But his expression was different; Ellie couldn't pinpoint it, but he had changed.
Ellie slowly stood up, facing Oliver. Former lovers turned enemies, Sarah didn't want to be caught between them. She got up and left, giving them space.
As she left, Sarah thought, 'When I don't love him anymore, I really don't feel sad!'
Oliver took a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, lit one, and said coldly, "Who told you to come here? Who allowed you to disturb her? Haven't you learned your lesson?"
