Chapter 10 Some People Are Always Helpless

Chapter 10 Some People Are Always Helpless

Eventually, Grace still landed a job.

The Thanksgiving news once again drew Seraphina's attention, and she brought Aurora to find her.

When they located Grace's whereabouts, Grace was still performing in a cheap dress.

Seraphina's heart broke just looking at her. How could Grace, Henry's wife, end up like this?

Aurora, meanwhile, stood there looking pretty upset. Grace's fingers were blistered from playing the violin, and the blisters had popped, causing her a lot of pain. But the show wasn't over, so she gritted her teeth and kept going.

Seraphina couldn't take it anymore, her face dark with anger. "What the heck is Henry trying to do!"

She called over the Grace's employer and asked him to give Grace a break.

At first, Grace's boss thought they were troublemakers and was ready to kick them out, but when they revealed who they were, he quickly agreed.

When he asked Grace to take a rest, she looked at her boss, confused. "The performance isn't over yet."

The boss spoke respectfully. "Mrs. Montague, your grandmother-in-law is here to see you."

Grace knew her hard-earned job was about to slip away again. But she swallowed her frustration and walked over to Aurora.

"Mom." Grace kept her tone polite.

Aurora acted like she didn't hear her, only nodding after Grace called her again.

A bit later, in a coffee shop.

Seraphina gently put band-aids on Grace's fingers, clearly upset. "Grace, why are you doing this to yourself? If you're mad, I'll deal with Henry and kick him out."

Grace just smiled and tried to comfort her.

Aurora ordered her a glass of lemon water. "Coffee's bad for your skin."

She noticed how tired Grace looked and checked out her clothes. "What Henry did was wrong, and I'll make sure he knows it."

She then told Seraphina, "Mom, you go wait in the car. I need to talk to Grace."

Seraphina knew what Aurora was thinking but just patted Grace's hand. "Grace, if anyone bullies you, let me know, and I'll handle it."

She genuinely liked Grace, way more than Elodie.

A bit later, Grace took a sip of lemon water and looked at Aurora. Her mother-in-law was no longer as meek as before.

Aurora skipped the small talk and got straight to it. "Grace, what are you doing? Wearing those clothes and working in broad daylight like this? Is this how you act as Henry's wife? You owe me an explanation."

Grace found it amusing. She looked at Aurora with a mocking smile. "I think this is fine; at least I can support my family with my own hands."

"Besides, I'm divorcing Henry. You can have the Mrs. Montague title back, I don't want it." She added.

Aurora felt a jolt in her heart. Was this really Grace talking? Her tone was so indifferent and distant, like Aurora was just a stranger. But the old Grace used to be a pro at making Aurora happy, always with a smile on her face.

Feeling uneasy, Aurora took another look at Grace. Grace continued, "I know you never liked me, but you've already messed with my work. If you're here to talk about the divorce agreement, let's get on with it."

Grace's sharp words caught Aurora off guard.

"Grace, I get that you're upset about Thanksgiving, but if you can't handle that, how can you be Mrs. Montague? I know you want a divorce because Henry doesn't care about you, but think about it. Elodie is just a divorced woman with a broken leg. Even regular guys wouldn't want her, let alone Henry," Aurora explained.

Aurora reached out and gently touched Grace's face. "I don't like you, but you're beautiful, aren't you? Even Henry, who hated you for three years, couldn't get enough of you in bed."

With that, Aurora stood up and looked at her. "Don't worry, the day after tomorrow is Mrs. Young's birthday party, and she specifically asked me to have you help out tomorrow. As for your job, quit it. If you want to experience life, I'll set you up with a top orchestra."

Grace shook her head. "No need."

Before Grace could say more, Aurora left. She knew the Windsor family's current situation, but Grace showed no fear. She had the same spirit Aurora had back in the day.

But women of their status, married into wealthy families, often didn't control their own lives.

Today, Aurora had a much better impression of Grace.

Back in the car, Aurora called Henry. "Idiot, get back from Harmony City immediately. The day after tomorrow is Mrs. Young's birthday party. You'd better make it up to Grace and show some affection at the party. Sort out those troubles of yours on the internet."

Henry knew it was Caleb Young's wife, Amara's birthday, and Caleb was the CEO of Horizon Innovations Group, who he had a project bid with. Henry already had a fifty-fifty chance, and the birthday party was crucial, a single move could change everything.

But Henry said, "I'll take Celeste. Grace can't handle this project and might mess it up."

Aurora's eyes narrowed dangerously. "Henry, this is a birthday party, and Mrs. Young specifically asked for Grace. You're taking a secretary? What are you thinking?"

Henry didn't respond, already set on his decision. From Aurora's tone, he thought Grace had begged her to order him to take her to the party.

Leaning back in the luxurious chair, Aurora looked at the hung-up phone and clicked her tongue. "Idiot, how dare you hang up on me."

She couldn't shake the image of Grace's determined look from her mind.

She knew why Grace wanted a divorce. It was simply because Henry didn't love her, she had no freedom, and she felt like she was being kept.

But for people like them, wasn't that how they all lived?
