Chapter 635
Chapter 635
The morning sunlight streamed through the sheer curtains into the kids' room, casting warm patches of light on the floor.
Gabriel rolled over, burying his face into the pillow with a grumpy groan.
On the neighboring bed, Travis pulled the blanket over his head, curling up like a little turtle, clearly not ready to get up either.
Zoey gently pushed open the door and took in the scene with a smile.
She walked over to the window and drew the curtains open, letting more sunlight flood the room.
"Time to get up, sweeties," she called softly. "You'll be late if you don't get up soon."
The response was two drawn-out "Nooo"s.
Travis even reached out from under the covers, trying to pull the blanket higher.
Zoey sat on the edge of Gabriel's bed, gently rubbing his back. "Who was it that said they were going to show everyone their new robot today?"
Gabriel squirmed but kept his eyes shut. "The robot can wait until tomorrow."
"Does that mean today's blueberry pancakes can wait until tomorrow, too?" Henry's voice came from the doorway.
He leaned against the doorframe, holding a tray with two steaming cups of milk, the sweet aroma filling the room.
Travis's nose twitched, and his body stiffened under the blanket.
Seeing this, Henry's eyes twinkled mischievously. "The kitchen also made honey toast, strawberry jam cookies, and chocolate banana milkshakes."
The last item seemed to have a magical effect. Gabriel and Travis simultaneously threw off their blankets, their sleepy eyes fixed on the tray in Henry's hands.
"Really?" Gabriel asked skeptically, but he was already sitting up.
"Cross my heart," Henry said earnestly. "But if you get up too late, the pancakes will get cold, and the milkshake's ice will melt."
Before he finished speaking, Gabriel and Travis were already scrambling out of bed, stumbling towards the bathroom.
Zoey watched the scene unfold and couldn't help but give Henry a thumbs-up. "You always know how to handle them."
Henry winked proudly. "It's all about the right motivation."
From the bathroom came the sound of running water and the boys' muffled tooth-brushing song.
Zoey walked over and saw Gabriel standing on tiptoe, brushing his teeth with foam all over his chin. Travis, eyes closed, was brushing mechanically, looking like he might fall asleep standing up.
"Need some help, little warriors?" She picked up a towel and wiped the foam off Gabriel's chin.
Gabriel spat out the water and mumbled, "Mom, can the robot really learn to do a backflip?"
"Of course it can," Zoey said, smoothing down his bedhead. "We'll have Dad teach you some programming when he has time."
"I'm going to make it do a hundred flips!" Gabriel's eyes lit up with excitement.
Travis, having finished rinsing, suddenly remembered something. "We have a new game in gym class today! The teacher said there would be a surprise!"
"Then you better hurry up and eat breakfast," Henry appeared at the door. "Grandma and Grandpa are already waiting in the dining room."
At the mention of their grandparents, Gabriel and Travis quickened their pace.
Hazel adored them and always sneaked them little treats.
In the main dining room, sunlight poured through the floor-to-ceiling windows onto the long dining table, where an array of breakfast dishes emitted tantalizing aromas.
Alfred sat at the head of the table, engrossed in his newspaper, while Hazel was busy giving instructions to the staff. When she saw Gabriel and Travis, her face lit up.
"My little darlings are here," she said, opening her arms wide. "Come, let Grandma see you. Did you have fun yesterday?"
Gabriel and Travis rushed into Hazel's embrace, eagerly recounting the highlights of their birthday party.
Alfred peeked over his newspaper, his stern face softening into a loving smile.
"Eat your breakfast first," he said in a mock stern voice, though his eyes twinkled with amusement. "Or you'll be late for school."
The table buzzed with activity.
Hazel personally served the boys, soon piling their plates with blueberry pancakes, honey toast, and bite-sized scrambled eggs.
Travis eagerly took a sip of his chocolate banana milkshake, closing his eyes in satisfaction. Gabriel focused on cutting his pancake, trying to find the perfect first bite.
"Slow down, boys," Zoey gently reminded them. "Don't choke."
Henry watched the scene, a wave of warmth washing over him.
A year ago, he had been consumed by the expansion of his business empire, his life efficient but cold. Everything changed when Zoey and the boys came back into his life.
Now, the lively breakfast table, the children's carefree laughter, and his parents' contented smiles were his most treasured possessions.
Gabriel suddenly looked up, "Dad, can you teach me programming after school today? Just a little bit!"
Henry snapped out of his reverie and nodded. "If you do well at school today."
"I'll be the best!" Gabriel promised earnestly.
Travis chimed in, not wanting to be outdone. "Me too! I'm going to get a reward from the teacher today!"
Hazel laughed. "Alright, alright, you're both Grandma's good boys. Here, have another pancake."
Breakfast ended in a flurry of laughter and chatter.
Henry and Zoey personally drove the boys to school.
Sunshine Kindergarten was located in an upscale neighborhood on the west side of town, with beautiful surroundings and tight security.
When Henry's car pulled up at the entrance, a teacher was already waiting to greet them.
"Good morning, Mr. Windsor, Ms. Spencer," the teacher smiled. "Gabriel, Travis, are you ready for a new day?"
Gabriel and Travis nodded, hopping out of the car with their backpacks.
Gabriel's backpack had a robot design, while Travis's was space-themed, both birthday gifts from the day before.
"Bye, Mom and Dad!" They called out in unison, waving.
Zoey bent down to adjust Travis's collar. "Listen to your teacher, okay?"
"Got it!" Travis replied, dragging out the words, eager to get inside.
Henry ruffled their hair. "I'll pick you up after school."
Gabriel and Travis nodded obediently.
Watching them run into the kindergarten, Zoey and Henry got back into the car.
Zoey glanced out the window, making sure the boys were safely inside the building before fastening her seatbelt.
"They're really growing up," she said softly. "Remember when we first came back, they wouldn't let go of my hand when we dropped them off?"
Henry started the car and took Zoey's hand, his gaze tender. "That's because you raised them well."
Meanwhile, the kindergarten classroom was already bustling. As soon as Gabriel and Travis walked in, they were surrounded by their classmates.
