Chapter 613

"Miss, you can't go in there," the younger cop said, stepping in front of her.

Zoey didn't even look at him. She lifted her foot and kicked the door to the hospital room.

The door slammed against the wall with a loud crash, shaking the entire hallway.

Inside the room, Upton, who had been lounging on the bed playing on his phone, jumped in fright, dropping his phone onto the blanket.

When he saw who it was, his somewhat handsome face twisted into a mask of terror. "Zoey? What are you doing here?"

Seeing Zoey, Upton immediately knew that the kidnapping had failed. He hadn't received any messages from the kidnappers since yesterday afternoon and didn't dare to contact them, fearing the plan had been exposed.

But Upton never expected Zoey to come straight to him. Had the kidnappers betrayed him so quickly?

At that moment, Upton felt deep regret—not for arranging the kidnapping of Gabriel and Travis, but for not hiding his identity when contacting the kidnappers. If he had, even if the kidnappers were caught, he wouldn't have been exposed.

But it was too late for regrets now.

Zoey didn't give him a chance to speak.

She stormed to the bedside like a vengeful whirlwind, grabbed Upton by the collar of his hospital gown, and punched him hard in the face.

Upton let out a scream as blood spurted from his nose.

At that moment, Upton was filled with fear, remembering how Zoey had mercilessly stomped on his groin before. He had truly thought he was going to die then.

Now, he felt the grim reaper's scythe looming over him again.

"You scumbag!" Zoey's voice was low and hoarse. "You dared to touch my children!"

Her second punch landed on Upton's left eye, making his eyeball bulge from the impact.

Upton tried to raise his hands to block her, but Zoey was faster. She punched his jaw, sending two bloody teeth flying onto the white sheets.

No, he couldn't just let Zoey beat him to death. Upton didn't want to die.

From Zoey's ferocity, Upton could tell she intended to kill him.

"Help! Police! Help!" Upton screamed incoherently, struggling towards the door. "This crazy woman is going to kill me!"

He remembered the cops stationed outside his room. They wouldn't let Zoey kill him, so he immediately called out for their help.

Two officers rushed in but were stopped by Henry, who had just arrived.

Henry had already called the Marigoldia Police Chief and, after a brief explanation, handed his phone to one of the officers. "Your chief wants to talk to you."

The officer took the phone in disbelief, listened for a moment before his expression became subtle, finally saying "Yes, sir", handing the phone back to Henry, and then exchanging a look with his partner.

The two officers stepped back outside, even closing the now barely hanging door behind them.

"No! Don't leave! Help me!" Upton's screams turned into desperate wails as Zoey grabbed a water jug from the bedside table and smashed it over his head.

"This is for the injury on Gabriel's head!" The jug left a bloody gash on Upton's forehead.

"This is for the terror Travis went through!" Zoey slapped him again, making his right cheek swell instantly.

"You sick freak! Scum!" Zoey grabbed Upton's hair and slammed his head into the headboard. "My son is only three years old! Three! How could you!"

Upton was now a bloody mess, his face covered in snot, tears, and blood, with no trace of his former good looks.

He weakly struggled, mumbling, "I'm sorry... I'll never do it again... Please forgive me..."

Zoey ignored him, her fists raining down like a storm.

She saw Gabriel's pale face in the hospital bed, Travis's tear-filled eyes, and the kidnappers' cold words about "selling them separately." Each memory made her punches harder.

"Zoey, that's enough." Henry finally stepped in, hugging the out-of-control Zoey from behind. "If you keep going, you'll kill him."

Zoey panted heavily, her fist frozen in mid-air.

Upton lay limp on the bed, his faint groans the only sign he was still alive.

The room reeked of blood, with splatters on the sheets, walls, and even the ceiling.

"He almost killed our children." Zoey's voice choked, her raised fist trembling.

Henry turned her around, seeing the anger in her eyes turn to tears, which rolled down her cheeks.

He held her tightly. "I know, I know, but going to jail for this scum isn't worth it. Gabriel and Travis are still waiting for us in their room."

Hearing her children's names, Zoey's tense body finally relaxed.

She leaned into Henry, letting him guide her out of the room.

Celine and Claire stood at the door, their faces pale but showing no sympathy.

After Henry and Zoey left, they exchanged a look and walked into the room.

"What are you doing?" Upton looked at them in terror, trying to back away but unable to move.

"Nothing much," Celine said sweetly, then suddenly kicked Upton's shin. "Just saying hi from our little ones."

Upton screamed again.

Claire wasn't to be outdone. She picked up a fruit knife from the bedside table and, under Upton's horrified gaze, simply peeled an apple and took a big bite. "Wishing you a speedy recovery," she said cheerfully, as if she really meant it.

As they left the room, they ran into an unexpected person—Mabel.

Mabel was carrying a fruit basket and some supplements, staring in shock at the two women coming out of Upton's room, then at Zoey, who was covered in blood and held by Henry.

"What did you do to Upton?" Mabel's voice trembled with shock.

Zoey lifted her head, the blood on her face and the coldness in her eyes making Mabel step back involuntarily.

"We just said hello," Zoey said coldly. "Tell Upton if he ever tries to mess with my kids again, I'll feed him to the sharks."

Mabel's face turned ashen, the fruit basket falling from her hands, scattering fruit everywhere.

She stumbled into the room, letting out a piercing scream, "Upton!"

In the hallway, Henry held Zoey as they walked towards the elevator, with Celine and Claire following closely behind.

No one looked back at the chaos, and no one spoke.

It wasn't until the elevator doors closed that Zoey, as if drained of all her strength, leaned heavily against Henry.
