Chapter 43: Ada's Mate
Ada
“Ada, wait,” Reese stops me before I can enter the office.
“I want to ask something,” he rubs his neck sheepishly. “Will you go on a date with me?”
“Excuse me?” I must blink a couple of times to focus on his words.
“You know, a date,” he shuffles his feet nervously. “We go somewhere and …”
“I know what a date is, Reese,” I laugh softly. “But I don’t understand why.”
“Because I like you,” he regains his confidence. “And our wolves are taking their sweet time to wake up. I only want a moment alone with you doing normal stuff.”
“I’m a bit occupied, Reese,” I say apologetically.
“I know,” he sighs. “I’m only asking for an hour or two where we talk nonsense and forget about all of this pack business.”
“Okay,” I agree after a moment of hesitation. I can do with a distraction, and it could be fun. “Tomorrow after breakfast?”
“Thanks,” he grins before he quickly kisses me on the cheek and walks away.
I take a deep breath before I open the office door and step inside.
“Ada,” Dad sounds surprised to see me.
“You’re in my chair,” I say as I take a seat opposite him.
“I was only finishing up …”
“It was a joke,” I say and close my eyes for a moment. “Look, I’m sorry it came to this. Believe me, it brings me no joy.”
“I’m sorry I disappointed you,” Father looks down at his hands.
“I know you are,” I sigh heavily. “But I’m going to need time to get past this. So, let’s stop with the apologies and blame and whatever and do what is best for my brothers and the pack.”
“Will you ever be able to forgive me?” Dad asks sadly.
“It will take time, Dad,” I say firmly. “Don’t rush me.”
“I understand,” he nods. “What do you want me to do now?”
“You need to stay out of pack business,” I look at him. “You’re not allowed to give orders or make decisions. Spend the week with Tyler and support him. After that, you need to train Zayne.”
“What about Margo and Clyde?” Dad swallows hard.
“They’re staying for the time being,” I answer. “Depending on their behaviour.”
Truth is, I cannot let Clyde go until this Killian drama has been resolved.
“There’s something you must know,” Dad whispers and look down at his hands. “If you don’t hate me yet, you will now.”
“What is it, Dad?” I ask as dark tendrils curl around my heart. What could Dad possibly have done that is worse than burning people alive?
“Clyde is my son,” Dad whispers and I can feel the blood drain from my face.
“This is a sick joke, right?” I laugh humourlessly.
“I met Margo before your mother,” Dad explains. “When she became pregnant, I stayed with her. Clyde was about one year old when I met your mother. She was my mate and I left Margo and Clyde.”
“Dear goddess, Dad,” I rest my elbows on my knees and buries my face in my hands. For a moment I remain in that position as I fight the shock and anger, but it is a losing battle. Suddenly it makes sense why Dad has been tolerating Clyde and his despicable mother.
“That f*cker m*lested me, Dad,” I shout as I jump out of my chair. “My own, f*cking half-brother. Does he knows?”
“I … I don’t know,” Dad stutters. “He m*lested you?”
“You know he did,” I explode. “Margo run to you and said I seduced Clyde.”
“I thought you were only kissing,” Dad is as white as a ghost. “Nobody said a word about being m*lested. And I placed guards at your door to keep him away after that.”
“Well, it didn’t work,” I shout angrily. “The bastard found a way around them.”
“Why didn’t you tell me?” Dad seems on the verge of a panic attack.
“I was fifteen,” I yell at him. “A child who was too scared and ashamed. You believed Margo the first time and not me. And she knew what Clyde was doing.”
“I will kill both of them,” Dad bellows as his nostrils flare with anger. He jumps out of the chair and starts marching to the door.
“You’ll do no such thing,” I say sharply and he turns to me.
“Ada, I didn’t know,” he breathes heavily. “If I knew I would’ve kicked them out. I have f*cked up so much, Ada. Please allow me to fix this one thing and kill them.”
“No,” I say firmly. “I will deal with it and that’s a direct order from your alpha. You understand?”
“I need to …”
“I said no, Dad,” I cut him off. “We need Clyde because he’s the one feeding Killian information. I need him alive for the time being.”
“Then I can kill him?” Dad asks hopefully.
“Dad, concentrate on your normal and stable son, Zayne,” I say. “Train him as you should and spend some time with your grandchildren.”
“Grandchildren?” Dad frowns.
“Yes,” I nod. “Toby and Ruby.”
“Who’s Ruby?” Dad asks flabbergasted.
“Oh, dear goddess,” I close my eyes and take a deep breath. “We’ll get to that later. Are there any more children you fathered?”
“Not that I know off,” he shrugs.
“Let’s hope so,” I grunt. “And Dad, make no mistake. One misstep from you and I’ll kick you out myself. If you so much as breathe a word about your illegitimate children or the fire, I will show no mercy.”
“You’re a fine alpha, Ada,” Dad looks at me with pride. “I give you my word that I will obey and never disappoint you again.”
“There’s a rank’s meeting after lunch,” I say as I walk past him, I do not care for his approval or compliments anymore. “Please be there.”
“Yes, Alpha,” he smiles.
I do not waste a minute as I march to Margo’s quarters. My mind is being tortured with memories of Clyde coming into my room and it fuels my anger with every step that I take. I do not bother knocking, I only barge inside.
“Ada,” she jumps out of her chair and looks at me with fear. “What … why.”
“You f*cking b*tch,” I yell as I finally snap and my fist connects hard with her face.
Screaming she falls and looks at me with terror as blood streams from her nose.
“You knew,” I shout furiously. “You f*cking knew he was my father’s son and still you allowed him to come to my room. How sick are you?”
“You don’t understand,” she starts crying. “He threatened me and …”
“Shut up,” I look at her with disgust as I get hold of her by her hair. “You’re f*cking lying anyway.”
“What are you doing?” She struggles against my hold as I drag her outside. “You’re hurting me.”
I do not even bother talking to her. I am too mad. Omegas make way and stare at us with big eyes as I keep on marching with Margo.
“Theo!” She screams as I keep on dragging her. “Theo! Help me!”
“What the hell?” Zoe runs closer and stops in her tracks when she sees us. “Alpha, do you need assistance?”
“Unlock the dungeon,” I grunt. “And not one of the nice cells.”
“Gladly,” she runs off.
“You lost your mind,” Margo yells at the top of her lungs. “Somebody, please help me. She went insane.”
An Omega steps closer and I look at him sternly.
“Try it and I will trial you for treason,” I warn him.
“No, Alpha,” he shakes his head. “I thought you could use this.”
He hands me a roll of duct tape.
“Do the honours,” I grin and pull Margo upright.
The Omega does not waste time as he rips off a piece and covers Margo’s mouth.
“So much better,” I smile at him. “Thank you.”
“Alpha, the pleasure is all mine,” he bows, and I drag a muffled Margo further.
By the time I reach the dungeon, everybody has gathered to witness the show. Zoe is standing ready by an open gate.
“Mother!” Clyde shouts panicky as we pass his cell. “Ada, you can’t do this.”
“You’re next, wait your turn,” I shout over my shoulder.
I toss Margo inside and she screams as I rip the tape off.
“Enjoy this while you can,” Margo sobs. “Once Theo hears about this, he will undo it.”
“I’m the alpha,” I growl at her. “And I will gladly toss him inside with you.”
“Lock the door and follow me,” I command Zoe as I march to Clyde’s cell.
“Ada,” he says anxiously. “What the hell has gotten into you?”
“Zoe,” I turn to her. “I’m going in. You know what to do when he shifts.”
“Yes, alpha,” she unlocks the gate and I step inside.
“You,” I go stand in front of him and whisper so softly that Zoe cannot hear. “You knew you were my half-brother and still you chose to come to my room.”
I lift my knee and he doubles over when I hit him in the groin. I take a fist full of hair and lift his face.
“You planted the bomb for Killian,” I hit him full on his nose and instantly there is blood. I get hold of his shirt and pull him up.
“You and Killian have been working with the rogues to attack us,” I punch him twice in the gut and he falls down coughing.
“You used a child to frame me,” I kick him in the stomach.
“You had s*xual relations with that child,” I kick him in his lower back.
“You’re a sick f*ck,” I kick him over and over until he is nothing more than a whimpering, bleeding mess.
“I had enough, brother,” I hiss into his ear as I kneel next to him. “Your joyride is over.”
I look at him with disgust for only a second before I turn around and walk out.
“Make arrangements for him to move to a worse cell, please?” I ask Zoe.
“With pleasure,” she grins and locks the door.
A sea of faces awaits me when I walk outside and I sigh inwardly. I have been alpha for less than a day and my only acts were those of violence.
“Listen up,” I say loudly. “What I have done gave me no pleasure. You can rest assured this is not the future of the pack. But you should also know that I will not tolerate misconduct. Feel free to see me should you disagree and we can discuss it.”
I glance the crowd over once more before I walk to my room to clean up.
