Chapter 16: An Escape
Chapter Sixteenth
An Escape
Asher
Pain clutched my chest as I starred at the necklace of my little wolf on my neck. I haven't taken it off ever since that day. I really missed her so much, and I wished fate wasn't so cruel to us.
I knew I wouldn't ever be able to forgive myself if I got married to Alora; it would be the same as betraying my little wolf. But then again, my loyalty to the pack depended solely on this.
A low hiss rolled off my lips as I slammed a ceramic flower decoration across my room wall. They were just too many expectations on me, beginning from avenging Alex's death to proving my loyalty to the cavern. I just wished there was a way I could escape it all.
Escape! My eyes instantly grew double its size. Wait. What if I actually escaped and ran away from the cavern? I've never thought of it before, and now seemed like the perfect timing, especially with my forced marriage to Alora happening tomorrow.
Perhaps if I successfully escaped, it was only going to be for a while, and I could use it as an opportunity to reconcile with my little wolf. Yes, I was going to escape.
Without sparing a second, I ambled to my box and began folding all my essential clothing.
"What's up, buddy?" I didn't need to turn around to know the voice belonged to Ethan. I stiffled a groan.
"Why are you folding your belongings?" He prodded through furrowed brows, but I don't reply.
"Come on, bro. You can't possibly still be angry at me. Look, I'm sorry. Your my best friend, and I realized it was wrong of me to have sided with your mother. I promise to be a better friend from henceforth and always have your back.".
I narrowed my gaze at him.
"Cut the crap, and go straight to the chase. What did my mother send you here for?" I hissed as anger bubbled up inside me.
For a split second, I saw a hurt flash in Ethan's face.
"Your mom didn't send me here. I'm here as your friend, your brother. I know you do not wish to get married to my sister, especially because you're in love with someone else, and I truly wish there was a way I could help you out of all this.".
"And who said there isn't a way?". I murmured as my gaze flicked over Ethan.
Ethan and I have been best friends for as long as I could remember. And Ethan had proven to be trustworthy numerous times in the past. But with his new-found relationship with my mother and his sister in the picture, I wasn't sure I could trust him; this was my only means to finally be freed, and I wasn't ready to ruin it.
"What now. You don't trust me?". He mumbled, starring at me with wide eyes.
I open my mouth to speak, but no words come out.
"It's fine; I made you lose your trust in me, and that's why I'm going to prove my loyalty to you this minute." He hissed as he brought out an ancient dagger from his waistcoast.
Before I could even stop him, it was already too late, as the dagger sliced into a tiny fracture of his finger, causing it to bleed.
"I, Ethan Young, prove my loyalty to you, Asher Loyd, from this day onwards and...".
I cut him off. "That's enough; you really do not need to do all that, bro, and for the records, I trust you.".
He let out a small smile. "Thanks buddy. So what's the plan?".
"I'm getting the fuck out of here tonight, and no one must know." I hissed as I packed my last bag.
"Do you plan on coming back?" He prodded as I nodded.
"Yes, I will come back. But in the main time that I will be gone, you will need to keep spying on the various wolf packs. Hopefully I will come back with a good plan on how to avenge Alex's death.".
He nodded before engulfing me in a hug. I pulled away after what felt like eternity, and I'm glad when Ethan doesn't ask where I planned on running to. Not that I didn't trust him enough to tell him; it was my mother; she could easily use her magic spells to force Ethan into telling her, but if he didn't know, then it was going to be impossible to find out anything from him. I guess that's part of the reason he didn't even bother asking me.
And with one last glance at my room, I flung my black side bag across my shoulder before taking a leap, my heart swelling with anticipation at the uncertainty of what the future held for me and my little wolf.
