CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FOURTY FIVE

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FOURTY FIVE

ANNA'S POV

I had been trying to be of help to Vivian all this while, and try to apologize. At least it was the last thing I could do for her before finally leaving. I just knew that I didn't have any reason to be there at the palace anymore. I wasn't of use to anybody. I knew that if I stayed there for even longer, it wouldn't take time before Alpha Logan turned me to one of his pets again. And I couldn't go through any of that. That would have been like going back to square one. One of the things that I just couldn't go through again.

I stared at the little child in my hands. He was an exact replica of Alpha Derek. I considered taking him to go and see him, but I just wanted to do what Vivian would have wanted me to do.

I carried the little boy through the halls, and he didn't even cry once. I offered him a few snacks, which he slowly munched on. I finally got to Amelia's room. I knocked on it gently, and she looked up. Her eyes widened as she saw me with Vivian's son.

“What are you doing with him?” She asked in panic, as she grabbed the boy from my arms. She grabbed him with such speed, that even the child started crying. I leaned in, patting his back. He stopped crying immediately, but that didn't stop Amelia from dragging him away again.

“Stop touching him!” She screamed, looking outside the door. “Where is Vivian?”

“With Alpha Logan,” I said, and she started panicking. Her actions made me narrow my eyes at her. I had been suspecting that there was something up between up between Vivian and she. And she just managed to prove me right.

“What did she do to him? Why is she with him?”

“She is the only one that can heal Alpha Derek. And she refused to do it.”

Amelia ran her hands through her face while Vivian's son played with her hair. “Why won't she just do it and forget about the whole thing?” She murmured to herself.

“He betrayed her,” I said, feeling like I was Vivian's best friend again. I was still supposed to be her best friend anyway. I was just being too stupid and stingy. I ruined things for myself with my own hands . I never got the feeling of having a best friend ever again.

I was supposed to know this child's name. I was supposed to supporting her at every step of the way. Not being treated like an outcast.

“Why are you still here?” Amelia asked, and I shook my head, and I turned around. I saw her face soften, but she didn't say anything else.

I wanted to let her know that I was leaving. But it wouldn't even matter to her. It was useless trying to make amends for the sins that I had already committed. I didn't even know how to go about my escape just yet.

AMELIA'S POV

I wanted to find out what was wrong with Vivian first off. To the extent of her handing Miles over to someone like Anna. I managed to ask one of the maids, and she immediately informed me that Alpha Logan had out Vivian in the dungeon. I was going to figure out ways that I was supposed to get her out of there later on. But first off, I still wanted to see Anna again. I knew that I wasn't the same Amelia.

And I couldn't deny the fact that Anna looked extremely pitiable in that white dress. I had to want to see her after she had left the room. It was almost like every single atom of color had been scrubbed from her face. I knew that it wasn't because Mark had died. It was so much more than that. It was something that she didn't want to talk about just yet. And I was going to give her all the time in the world. But she was going to tell me. As long we lived in the same pack together.

Maybe she did want to talk about. But how many of us actually paid any attention to her? I was already feeling bad as I bounced Miles on my thighs. The way I even sent her out of the room was rude. I summoned the courage to finally head to the room that she once shared with Mark. I knew that she didn't have another night there before Alpha Logan would ask his men to chase her out of there.

I knocked on the door, and she opened up, with her lips in a straight line. Her eyebrows were slightly arched. She was obviously shocked to see me at her door. She moved over to the side, giving me space to walk in.

“I wasn't expecting you,” she said, and I smiled to myself.

“That's okay,” I said, trying to sound nice. “Miles and I came to give you a visit.” Miles had his hands out, like he was begging her to come and pick him up. She didn't make a move.

“Is that his name?” She asked, and I nodded.

“He looks so much like Alpha Derek,” she whispered, and I smiled again. We all knew that fact. Even Vivian knew it, even if she would never admit.

I looked around the room, noticing that she was packing up.

“Are you planning on leaving the room already?” I asked. “You seem to be up to date with Alpha Logan's terms more than I was.”

She frowned immediately, and I knew that it wasn't the case. “I'm not leaving the room,” she whispered. “I'm leaving the pack as a whole.”

“Why?” I asked, and she looked away. “All I've been used as, all my life is as a toy. Vivian made me feel human, but I messed that up as well. I got mated to Alpha Derek who didn't even want to look at me because I looked nothing like Vivian. I fell into the hands of Mark next. The same person that made me sleep on the floor while he had a king sized bed. It just didn't make any sense.”

“But Mark is gone now. And Alpha Derek is bed ridden. You can do better with your life.”

She shook her head firmly, and I could tell that she had considered countless times. There was nothing that I was going to say that was going to change her mind. At least not now.

“There are no chances for me here. At least no now. The only thing that will happen is me, turning to Alpha Logan's pet all over again. And I don't want that. I want to live a free life. I want to leave like you.”

I took in a deep breath, trying not to cry. “Do you know your way out?” I asked, and she shook her head.

I was more than willing to show her my escape route if she was that determined.

“I'll help you,” I whispered. “Meet me at midnight.” With that, I headed out of the room.

The rest of the day flew by quickly, with every other person in the pack talking about how they were sure that Violet had something to do with the death of Beta Ryan. It was too hilarious even imagining tiny Vivian, murdering a man like that. It was just something that would never happen.

I was already heading towards the dungeon, when someone pulled me away from the path. I was about to scream, when the person covered my mouth.

It was one of the men that had come from Alpha Kyle's pack.

“What is it?” I asked immediately he took his hands off my mouth. “Why did you grab me like that?”

“It wouldn't make sense if you go to see Vivian now,” he said, and I frowned.

“Why not?” I asked. “I can go to see anyone at all that I wish to.”

“Alpha Logan is there currently. He is trying to get her to confess.”

“But she didn't even do it. You did!” I said in a humorous voice, but he didn't get the joke. He sti had a straight face on.

“Fine, I'll just head back to my room,” I said, and the guy nodded, moving away from the way he was leaning into me.

“She might get executed tomorrow or the next,” he said, and I paused in my steps.

What?

“What do you mean?” I asked, turning back.  Vivian was talk g this whole revenge thing too seriously.

He shook his head, with a smile on his face. “You don't have to worry, Amelia. Everything is under control.”

I frowned, as I huffed away. Just like Vivian, he wouldn't tell me everything that was happening. Just Vivian. They were being very quiet about everything that was happening. I could barely stop myself from thinking as I went back to my room. I walked back into the room, taking in the sight of Anna sleeping right beside Miles. She had come to my room, that she was unable to sleep on hers. And she didn't want to sleep until morning. I was the only one that she could run to. She was the second person that made me feel useful in the pack after Vivian. Now that I had gotten to know her, I didn't want her leaving. But she had to. I wasn't going to be the one to hold her back and stop her from achieving her dreams of a free life. She deserved better.

As soon as it was midnight, I woke her up, locking Miles up in the room while he still slept. I didn't want to take any chances around the maids or Alpha Logan.

“Thank you so much for wanting to help me with some thing like that,” Anna whispered, and I managed to give her a smile.

“It's probably what Vivian would do.” I was right about that.

“Do you have a different kind of relationshop with her?” Anna asked, as we headed out of the palace, when I was sure that the maids had gone to sleep.

“Something like that.”

She giggled. “It was pretty obvious.”

My eyes widened. “What is pretty obvious? The way we talk to each other?” I asked, and she shook her head.

“Well, not that. The way the both of you look and speak. It might take a while to get it or see it. But once anyone pays attention, the resemblance is there.”

I waited for her to ask who was behind our separation. Or the reason why we weren't allowed to talk to each other freely.  But with the way she acted, I could tell that she knew already. We sneaked out through the back doors that nobody ever used. I got the key one time after satisfying Alpha Logan. He slept soundly while I went to duplicate the key anyway.

Anna followed like the most obedient child in the world, as I led her on. I managed to pull her through the garden, already mastering when the security lights came on.

As we got to the pack gates, I slipped a paper into her hands.

“A map,” I told her as she looked down at it. “It should help you navigate your way through the forest. Understood?”

She nodded, looking up at me. I noticed that she had been crying the whole time.

“You don't have to cry,” I said, putting a few dollars into her hands. “Just take care of yourself from this point on.”

She nodded, pulling me in for a hug. “Please tell Vivian I love her. And that I'm sorry.” I knew that she had so many things to be sorry for.

I nodded. She broke the hug, and I watched her as she waked through the pack gates. She was going to be fine. Or so I hoped.
