Chapter 84: Ambush in the House

The day after the funeral, Amy's family returned to their normal routines. The house, once filled with sorrow, gradually regained life with the presence of the children. Although traces of sadness lingered in Amy's eyes, she tried her best to be happy for her family.

While Zack busied himself caring for Josh and Aliah, Amy was tidying up her father’s belongings in his room. She found her father’s old watch left on the bedside table. Picking it up, she pressed it against her chest, drawing strength from it.

Moments later, she heard the sound of a car pulling up outside. Not expecting visitors, Amy went downstairs to check who it was. To her surprise, it was Juan, Zack’s half-brother, standing at the door with several unfamiliar men.

“Juan? What are you doing here?” Amy asked, trying to mask the unease in her voice.

Juan smirked, clearly up to no good. “Amy, won’t you invite in a relative of your husband? I was surprised to hear about a funeral. Seems like there’s some news I missed.”

Amy didn’t like Juan’s tone, but she kept her composure. “I’m sorry, Juan, but this isn’t a good time for visitors. You were just leaving, right?” she replied firmly yet calmly.

Instead of leaving, Juan signaled to his companions, and they swiftly entered the house. Amy stepped back in shock. She quickly ran to Zack, who was in the living room with the kids.

“Zack! Juan—he’s here, and he’s brought strangers with him!” she warned.

Zack immediately stood, shielding Aliah and Josh behind Amy. “What do you want, Juan? I thought we’d settled this.”

“It’s not settled, Zack,” Juan replied, walking slowly toward them. “I’m here to claim what’s rightfully mine. Your father’s inheritance? I know I have a share.”

Zack couldn’t hold back his anger. “You have no right to dictate what’s yours! We’ve been through this before. Leave now before things get worse!”

Juan was unfazed. Instead, he grabbed a gun from one of his men and pointed it at Zack. “You can’t just dismiss me. If you don’t give me what I want, you might lose something again.”

Seeing the gun, Amy swallowed her fear but forced herself to stay strong. She stepped in front of Zack. “Juan, I’m begging you. There’s no need for this. Let’s settle this peacefully.”

Juan’s men laughed mockingly. “Peace? Peace is for the weak!” Juan sneered before raising the gun again.

Suddenly, a loud commotion erupted from the back of the house. Zack’s security team arrived, armed and ready to defend the family. “Raise your hands! You won’t leave here unscathed if you try anything,” their leader shouted.

Juan and his men panicked. They fled toward the back of the house but were quickly surrounded by Zack’s guards. One by one, Juan’s men surrendered, but Juan himself attempted to escape. He aimed his gun at Zack, but Zack dodged swiftly.

Without hesitation, Zack tackled Juan and disarmed him. Despite his anger, he refrained from hurting him. “I’m not like you, Juan. I’ll never let my family be harmed.”

When the police arrived, they arrested Juan and his men. As they were being taken away, Juan shouted, “This isn’t over, Zack! This isn’t over!”

When the chaos finally subsided, Zack embraced Amy tightly. “I’m sorry, hon. I never expected things to escalate like this. I should never have put you in danger.”

Amy took a deep breath, trying to calm the fear that had overwhelmed her earlier. “What matters is that we’re safe. But Zack, we need to make sure Juan doesn’t come back.”

“You’re right,” Zack agreed. “I’ll do everything to protect my family.”

As Zack comforted Amy, Aliah and Josh watched silently. Amy realized that even amid danger, some things were more important—the love and protection they gave each other.

That night, Amy prayed not just for their safety but also for peace for their family.

In the days that followed, Amy and Zack’s lives began to return to normal, but the fear caused by the ambush lingered in their hearts. Juan and his men were imprisoned, but they knew this might not be the end of the threat. Zack focused on strengthening their security while Amy continued caring for their children.

A week after the incident, while Zack was busy with work, Amy looked after the kids. But the weight of the events still haunted her thoughts. She couldn’t shake off Juan’s ominous promise that it wasn’t over.

One evening, as Amy and Zack were talking in the living room, a loud noise came from outside the house. The guards immediately raised the alarm, and Zack rushed to the door. “Amy, hide!” Zack commanded as he grabbed a gun from under the table.

But Amy couldn’t hold back. “Zack, don’t do this. We need to stay united. We can’t keep living in fear,” she said, gripping Zack’s hand.

Zack remained firm. “I can’t lose you, Amy. My family is everything to me. I won’t let what happened to your father happen again.”

Despite the commotion outside, Amy decided not to flee or hide. “Zack, we’re a family, and we won’t live in constant fear. You don’t have to face this alone.”

They instructed the guards to investigate the noise. To their surprise, it wasn’t an enemy but a family holding documents and seeking Zack’s help. “Can we negotiate? Something terrible happened to us, and we have nowhere else to go,” said a woman accompanied by two children.

Initially cautious, Zack listened to their story. In a few minutes, he learned they weren’t foes but a family displaced from their village due to a conflict.

Moved by compassion, Zack offered them assistance and temporary shelter. “You’re not alone. We’ll help you and ensure you get back on your feet,” Zack said sincerely.

As Amy and Zack arranged support for the family, Amy realized that even amid chaos and fear, acts of kindness could still prevail. “Zack, I know we made the right choice,” Amy said, watching the family.

But their challenges were far from over. With the family they helped, they knew their battle wasn’t just for safety but also for hope and humanity.

As the night grew quiet, Amy resolved to take new steps for their family. “Despite everything, Zack, we’ll remain strong. We need hope and unity, not fear.”

Zack nodded deeply, reassured by her words. “Yes, hon. And we’ll face it all together.”

In the peaceful silence of the night, Amy and Zack’s family vowed to continue fighting for a safer and happier tomorrow.
