Maya
Conrad was back at work. He wasn’t back full-time yet, just three days a week for now. He is doing well but still wants to take it easy. I believe he is doing it more for my sake than his because he knows I worry too much. I am still trying to find a job. I am nearly moved in, completely. I still have a few things to get, and my lease will officially end next week.
Callum seems to have disappeared again, but I won’t hold my breath that it will stay that way. He will have a plan in his head, but while he stays away, I refuse to let him get to me.
I am enjoying having the place to myself. Conrad was going to get Joshua to come over, but I told him not to. I wasn’t planning on going out today. I will spend my day cleaning, catching up with laundry, studying and job hunting. I put some music on and get to work. I happily dance around in a world of my own as I clean. There isn’t much to do since Conrad is a bit of a neat freak. I am the same, though.
I am not doing it for long when there is someone at the front door. I panic for a moment and rush to check the camera. I am surprised when I see it is Conrad’s father. Why is he here? I take a deep breath before answering.
“Hello, Mr Ackley. Conrad isn’t here. He is at the office.” I say politely.
“I know. I came to see you.” He replies, emotionless.
“Me?” I stammer.
“Yes. Can you please let me in?” he says.
I nod, pressing the button. What reason would he have to see me? He doesn’t even like me. He still wishes Conrad was with Bridget and not me. I turn the music off and wait for him to knock on the front door. I guess I should get this over with. I take a few deep breaths and open the door.
He walks straight in without me inviting him. I roll my eyes and close the door behind us. Whatever his reason, I want it over sooner rather than later. I turn to face him.
“What will it take?” he asks.
“What do you mean, what will it take?” I ask, confused.
“For you to leave my son?”
“Excuse me?” I snap.
“You heard me. What will it take? Money? A new house? Your tuition? Anything? What do I need to give you to walk away from my son and this relationship? He should be with someone like Bridget, not you.” He states firmly.
Is he for real? Does he really think he can buy me off?
“Nothing. It will take nothing. I don’t want a damn thing from you. I am not walking away from Conrad. I love him, and you can’t change that. How dare you come over here and say these things to me? Conrad doesn’t want to be with Bridget. He wants to be with me. You can learn how to accept that. Now, get the fuck out.” I yell.
“Do not raise your voice at me.” He snaps.
“I will do what the hell I please. I have dealt with worse men than you in my life. You do not scare me. Now, leave, right now.” I hiss.
“Everyone has a price, Maya.”
“I don’t, not when it comes to Conrad. You could offer me the entire world to walk away from him, but I still wouldn’t. Get out!” I shout.
He shakes his head in disgust, “You will regret this.”
“Don’t you dare try to threaten me. As I said, I have dealt with monsters worse than you.”
“I am not. I am just trying to make things easier because it will all end in heartbreak. My son will soon release the mistake he made with you. It will never work, and you will be left with nothing.” He says.
“When are you going to get it into your damn head that Conrad loves me? You can do whatever you want, but it won’t work. We are together and happy.”
I walk to the front door, open it and stare at him, “It is time for you to leave now.”
He does not look pleased. Did he honestly think his plan would work? He walks out, not even looking at me. I slam the door behind him and lock it. I sigh, resting against it. Does he really hate me that much? I get it, well, a part of it. I was the reason his son got hurt. Even if he didn’t get hurt because of me, I am sure his father would find other reasons to hate me. I can’t believe he thought it was okay to come over and try to buy me off. I wonder if he is always like this, or is it just with me?
I groan in frustration, pulling myself off the door. I will need to tell Conrad what happens. I don’t want to cause any more issues between them, but I also refuse to lie to my boyfriend for him. Conrad will be so mad. I wonder if we can ever be together without someone trying to ruin it for us.
I put my music back on and got back to what I was doing to try to distract myself. It doesn’t work. He has made me so damn angry. He really must think I am worthless and don’t deserve his son or to be part of his world. I wouldn’t be surprised if Bridget had something to do with what happened. They are probably conspiring to find a way to get rid of me. I won’t let them. I have fought many battles in life, but this is the first time I have something to fight for, someone to fight for other than just myself.
I make myself some coffee and find my cell to text Conrad.
Hey, handsome. Do you want to meet on your lunch break? Xx
I can go to his office, or we can meet somewhere else. I would rather go somewhere because I don’t need anyone else judging me. I am sure his employees heard what happened and will agree with his father I am not good enough.
Hey, sweetheart. Yes, I would like that. Shall we meet at the Italian place where we had one of our first lunch dates? Xx
Sure, sounds perfect. Meet you there about one? Xx
Yes, one is perfect. I will ask Joshua to come pick you up and drop you off xx
I could tell him no, but he would feel better if he knew I was with Joshua.
Okay, that is fine. I will see you in a couple of hours xx
I look forward to it. I love you xx
I love you too, handsome xx
I won’t tell him about his dad visiting until later when he comes home. Though, he may see it on his cell because it is also connected to the security system. If he asks about it, I will tell him at lunch. If not, I will tell him tonight. He will be so mad, but I don’t want him going over and having a go at his dad, even if he does deserve it. It will make things worse. His father has made it obvious he doesn’t want a relationship with me, but I don’t want their relationship to change. He is still Conrad’s father at the end of the day. Who knows, perhaps his father will accept me one day, but I won’t hold my breath. I don’t need his acceptance, but it would make life easier for everyone involved.
