Chapter 20: Maxim (14): Recreation
–Maxim–
She’d been tossing in her sleep, turning from left to right, nearly crushing one of the kids. I scooped her into my arms and pulled her over me. She calmed down as she muttered something inaudible until she spoke.
“Don’t go, my love… I’m begging you.”
My eyes dilated as I remembered those words—the moment when I insisted on going out to face those beasts on behalf of my people. Nothing bad happened, but she looked scared at first. I looked at our children, who were sleeping peacefully on the bed. None of them had slept like that for centuries. They were older than her now. Ophelia uses her magic to turn them into their young age so she could remember having her mother around when they were still little.
It’s also my wishful thinking after I lost her. After we lost her. Ophelia recreates that for us. She gave us a chance like this to make up for the memories we should have had with their mother if she hadn’t been killed.
I gently rubbed her back when she started sobbing in her sleep. I slid my fingers through her hair to the back of her head as I pressed my lips to her forehead. She calmed down a little.
With her mutterings, these lucid dreams, I think Alexandria has been dreaming of a series of events throughout her lifetime, and it’s not good for her brain. It’s not good for her body to remember it all at once.
“I’m here,” I whispered and kissed her nose.
I didn’t sleep a blink.
Just a few days ago, all I did was eliminate people who had been tracking her. They were the force of the curse that would kill her all over again. They were cursed to do that. It’s their mission, to fulfill whatever curse that witch had written down.
Velia always draws it every twenty years—making my wife’s life miserable as soon as she comes into this world again, then making sure she’ll have the worst childhood. Neglected, abandoned. It was almost the same. But there was a family that finally loved her so much. They looked so much like her parents—her first parents before I married her—but somehow had an unfortunate death.
Now that I have her, I won’t let that happen ever again.
Then, this stupid cousin just brought her to the Blood Moon Pack—the very old Pack that tried to take our lands during my reign millennia ago. Those beasts ruined us.
Even after I became immortal through a blood pact with the devil, our tragedy kept on coming. After twenty years, there was a war between the Werewolf King and me. I turned a lot of people just like me to fight alongside me and to ruin them and the witch who kept herself hidden, manipulating every Alpha King. But now, an Alpha King was born, blessed by their Goddess, and somehow made a truce with me. I was ready to slaughter their bloodline and the Blood Moon Pack’s bloodline.
I don’t care if I went to hell, but I have never been calculative in my life—only to avenge my wife and to save her again and again. When my eldest turned twenty, he drank my blood to fight alongside me. He, too, had witnessed his mother’s death and also her reincarnation.
“Hmm,” Alexandria hummed as she looked up at me. She gasped and jolted up, then looked behind her to see the three cuddled together. “H~how…”
She muttered and reached for her head.
“What’s wrong?”
“My body and head just hurt.”
“I’ll call the healer.” I reached for my phone, but she stopped me.
“I’m fine.” She straddled me, then finally moved to the side and rushed to the bathroom. I waited and listened to the water. She came back shortly and stared at the bed. I patted the spot on my left as she hesitated.
Maybe forcing her into this family indeed made her uncomfortable. Maybe it was too good to be true? I forced her here, but I just couldn’t help myself. I’ve been longing for her embrace. I’ve been longing to touch her. I waited for centuries upon centuries for this moment—to hold her when she’s alive, breathing, and well.
I pulled the blanket up as she slid next to me.
“We’ll be married soon,” I whispered. “Please don’t expect me to sleep in separate rooms.”
I pulled her into my arms and slid my fingers through her thick hair, massaging her scalp. She moaned and closed her eyes. If she only knew that a single moan she made made me hard. I’ve been patient for days, but I can’t scare her like this.
I don’t really sleep. But with her, I was somewhat drawn to sleep. They are already grown-ups, but they are sleeping like normal children. It’s her. Alexandria. It’s her doing. She’s our cure.
“Hmm,” Alexandria hummed as I held her tightly so she wouldn’t roll out of the bed.
My eyes dilated when her legs straddled me, and she moved on top of me. Her body pressed to mine, and my manhood, which hadn’t been fully awake for thousands of years, was now fully awake.
