Chapter 120: The Sharpest Weapon Is a Sharp Tongue
Just as they stepped out of the Carters' house, they ran into Rylee.
Seeing Luna, Rylee's eyes lit up.
She pulled up in front of them, rolled down her window, and called out, "Luna!"
Luna gave her a faint nod.
Theodore reached out and wrapped his arm around Luna's waist.
Noticing his gesture, a flicker of complexity crossed Rylee's eyes, but she quickly composed herself.
"Heading out?" she asked with a smile.
"Mm-hmm," Luna nodded, her tone flat. "We've got something to do tonight. We're leaving now. Bye."
"Goodbye," Rylee said.
Theodore, still holding Luna, got into the nearby car.
Watching their car drive away, Rylee was lost in thought.
Was he protecting the child in Luna's womb?
Is she really pregnant?
Her eyes darkened.
No!
Luna couldn't bear children for anyone.
Theodore was driving when he suddenly asked, "Did Rylee ever sleep with you?"
Luna froze, recalling her teenage years.
Back then, Rylee was her best friend.
They had slept together before.
Could Rylee have kissed me while I was asleep?
Or secretly touched my body?
Oh no--
"I feel a little sick," she said, swallowing hard.
Theodore thought she was joking and teased. "Feeling sick now? Too late."
Noticing that she was really in distress, he was startled.
He quickly pulled the car over to the side of the road.
As soon as the car stopped, Luna opened the door and rushed out to the grassy area at the side of the road to vomit.
Theodore hurried over with water and tissues.
He stood beside her, supporting her waist with one hand and gently patting her back with the other.
His eyes were filled with concern.
I shouldn't have brought up Rylee.
Once she had finished, he unscrewed the cap on the water bottle and handed it to her.
As she drank, he gently wiped the corners of her mouth with a tissue.
"Honey, are you okay?" he asked worriedly.
"I'm fine now." Luna nodded.
Seeing that her complexion was still pale, he asked, "Are you really okay?"
"Yes." She smiled.
He nodded, took her hand, and led her to the car.
He started the engine again.
By the time the two of them arrived at the restaurant, everyone else was already there.
A server led them into a private dining room.
As soon as they walked in, Luna and Theodore spotted Mia.
She was wearing a dark green dress, and her short, snow-white hair was slightly curled.
Two earrings dangled from her earlobes.
Her demeanor was gentle. Yet, her eyes held a hint of sharpness and composure.
After exchanging brief greetings with the others, the two took their seats.
"Theodore, Luna, this is Mia. These two are her son and daughter, Anthony and Layla Walker," John introduced.
He then turned to Mia and said, "This is Theodore, my son with Mary, and his wife, Luna Carter."
After the pleasantries, the meal began.
At the table, Mia and James mostly conversed.
John occasionally exchanged a few words with them.
Theodore, Luna, and Mary, however, remained relatively quiet.
Mia glanced at Mary, then turned to John. "Seeing how well Mary is taking care of you puts my mind at ease."
Mary's body stiffened slightly.
Noticing this, John took her hand.
"She really does take good care of me. I've relied on her these past years," he said.
Mary looked at John with a hint of surprise.
Mia glanced at Mary and gave a faint smile.
Luna suddenly felt a sense of relief wash over her.
Mia?
She's nothing special.
Mia seemed to sense Luna's gaze and turned to look at her.
Luna met Mia's gaze, raised her glass, and stood up.
"Auntie Mia, here's to you. I've heard quite a few stories about you." She smiled.
Mia smiled faintly and raised her glass. "I've heard quite a bit about you, too."
"Oh? What have you heard about me?" Luna asked, smiling.
"I've heard you're very capable—a real asset to the Carter family," Mia said.
"I can't compare to you, Auntie Mia. I'll drink this first; you take your time." Luna smiled before downing the drink in one gulp and sitting back down.
Mia glanced at her and took a sip herself.
Setting down her glass, she suddenly turned to Noah. "Where's the young lady from the Garcia family?"
"Grandma, Isabella... isn't feeling well today," Noah replied.
In truth, he hadn't even considered inviting her to the gathering.
Mia nodded, her tone gentle. "Given her current condition, she does indeed need plenty of rest."
She paused, then added, "Tell her not to overthink things. Don't let what's online get to her. I'll handle it for her."
"I understand, Grandma." Noah nodded.
Mia turned her gaze toward Theodore.
Ignoring her gaze, he didn't even lift an eyelid.
Mia's heart sank.
"Young people these days," she began, "are quick to blow every little thing up online, turning it into a huge fuss."
Theodore turned to look at her.
"Yeah, young people these days truly love going online." Luna smiled.
Mia looked at her.
"Do you know your former granddaughter-in-law, Emma? She was particularly fond of the internet. She even hosted live streams on various platforms, talking about her office romance with Noah. It really touched a lot of people," Luna continued.
Mia's expression darkened slightly.
"Your future daughter-in-law is in the entertainment industry. She rose to fame online and has a large fan base. She's quite savvy in the online world. She's even smeared my reputation online before," Luna said with a smile. "But I'm the senior here so that I won't hold it against her."
Mia frowned slightly as she looked at her.
