Chapter 23
“How can I’ve never know that mom has a twin sister?”
Also, Aunt Candice lived to the next town where Dad lived… how funny because mom and dad is just so near from each other before they even got to know each other… but it don’t matter now.
Aunt Candice found me leaving at the house and I don’t know why she’s so concern at me even though we don’t know each other… I told her I can take care of myself and she practically laughed at me and dragged me to her house after saying. “You’re not mature enough and I’m sure your parents gave you everything you have in life, no you can’t handle living by yourself with nothing… and your mom put me on your guardian list… so I’ll have to take care of you whether you like it or not.”
Aunt Candice sigh and pouted, she’s cooking at her kitchen now while I just look at her because I don’t think I’m a much of a help either. “Maybe because she wanted to bury the past from behind and I don’t blame her for that.”
There so much things I don’t know about mom and hearing her from her sister felt weird… it’s like I’m talking to my mom in different clothing style cause mom is more of the elegant type, prim and proper while Aunt Candice is the bold one, rebel and reckless. So weird but so interesting especially that I’m hearing stories that I’ve never heard before.
“What do you mean?” I’m so curious right now.
She smirked at me and shake her head. “Because we were poor and she hated our life, we have a drunkard father and a never present mother, she worked her ass off and once she got into the university, she practically forgot about us, we kept contact but our parents used me to get money from her and that’s how we grew apart. She turned out how she was and I’m here still stuck to where were… but it’s all done now, our parents passed away… and I guess I’m the only person left… guess we have something in common huh?”
I was shocked that I couldn’t say anything and I felt pain coming from her but she just smile at me… a sad one but she shake her head and divert her attention to the dish she’s cooking.
“T-that’s really heartbreaking.” I whispered and when I looked at her, she only look away and rolled her eyes at me but I can see right through her, she’s acting strong but I know she’s heartbroken… and in pain.
She cough, “Enough of this, dinner is ready, go get the plates ready.” I pouted and oblige.
We ate our dinner with peace and despite just knowing her now I immediately felt comfortable with her, mom really knows who I needed right now… and she immediately delivered, she’s guiding me despite not being here, and that gave me the strength and courage.
Her house is small and only has two rooms. She lives alone and she made me stay in the other room and it’s pretty decent. It’s small but clean.
“What are your plans now?” I was getting ready for bed when she suddenly enter and asked that question. Her arms are crossed as she lean on the door. “You’re not giving up school are you?”
“It’s still summer.”
She nodded. “You’ll work with me then. If you gotta stay here, you have to work, I can’t raise you when I’m the only one working.”
I wanted to say that I have a bankbook that dad gave me but I stopped myself before I could do so… I could use that for my education, and I could work, I think I’m capable of doing that plus I can’t depend on this money forever.
“Okay.”
“Sleep tight, we’ll be early tomorrow.” Before I could ask her what work we’re doing she already left.
**
The morning came and I surprisingly slept tight despite all the thinking of what will happen to me now and how did my life go from being how it was and how it is now… and I still couldn’t believe that my parents are gone and I still haven’t gotten to the morgue.
“Let’s go.” I don’t know what to expect but we’re here at a local bar which actually shocked me… I mean am I even allowed here? “I work here as a waitress, you can do the same, and before you say anything, it’s a decent work and the pay is good.”
“I didn’t say anything.”
“Yeah, but your face did.” I pouted at that. How can she be so blunt? I’ve never met someone like her.
When we arrive at the bar, I was introduce to my co-worker and they train me for the job I will be doing, and I will just serve drinks to the customer and help with the kitchen chores like washing the dishes and such.
It’s actually tiring because this is my first time working in a bar… my usually work was done in an office but now that I’m serving drinks and food table to table I realize how tiring it was and of course there were customers trying to hit on me but the bouncer of the bar is strict and is alert. Aunt Candice is in the bar counter making drinks together with the other barista and she looks really cool there.
How funny because this isn’t how I imagine myself entering the bar… I thought I would be partying with my friends and having the time of my life but here I am working, it’s wild and chaotic but the loud music is making me groove, and it’s smelly.. the people, the smoke, the drinks, and the sweats all mixed up together.
“I’m tired. I got a lot of tip though.” The pay is good and there are a lot of tips which made me satisfied despite being tired. Aunt Candice laugh at me as she pat my back.
“That’s how life is. We have to work hard to earn.”
We’re on our way home when a guy suddenly appeared in front of us and he hugged Aunt Candice tight and kiss her by the lips that made me pout… he stared at me and raise his brows… I don’t like him, there’s a vibe I’m getting at him.
