Chapter 170 Home is wherever you are

Chapter 170 Home is wherever you are
Chapter 170: Home is Wherever You Are

Golden got back to Northbridge and soon she was in her final year of med school. She had worked tirelessly to earn her spot on the Dean's Honour List.

She had a lot of help from Xander. He wasn't just her boyfriend, he was also her tutor and pushed her harder than she had ever pushed herself.

Northbridge was full of silent geniuses so being on the Dean's Honour List was a very big deal.

At some point, Xander moved to Northbridge to work briefly at St. Catherine's University Hospital for about six months in the pediatrics unit.

When he saw the opening, he was quick to apply as it gave him the opportunity to be closer to Golden.

Although in a relationship, Golden and Xander employed a high level of professionalism when they were in the hospital.
Except for her friends, no one else knew about their relationship.

They navigated working in the same space and keeping a healthy relationship. Off campus, they were affectionate.

Soon it was graduation season and everyone was in high spirits. Elsa had graduated a year earlier and was already working as a dentist in St. Peter's Hospital in London.

She came back to Northbridge to attend the graduation ceremonies of her friends. Kyla had graduated the top of her class in Physiotherapy and was Valedictorian.

They all attended the ceremony and watched their friend give her speech. Then they all went out to celebrate.

Soon it was time for Golden and Grace to graduate. Grace had beaten Golden with a 0.1 margin to be Valedictorian and Golden didn't feel as bad as she thought she would. Instead, she felt fulfilled.

She was happy that her friend was Valedictorian. She had gained more since coming to Northbridge and she was satisfied with the outcome.

Golden had been offered a job at St Catherine's University Hospital as a Junior Doctor and another position as a Junior Lecturer in Northbridge School of Medicine.

She was a very good student and had been a tutor while in school. The University wasn't ready to let go of such talent and decided to retain her.

Golden looked at both offer letters and smiled. She remembered when she first got her scholarship offer letter to come to Northbridge and how she had hidden the letter because she wasn't sure.

Now five years later, she was holding two offer letters to stay back in Northbridge.

“What are you looking at Princess?” Xander asked as he kissed Gigi's neck.

He had just come home from work. He lived 30 minutes away from the campus and Golden usually came to the house for the weekend.

After her final exams, she was mostly at his place. And he had just come back home to see her sitting on the dining chair a little distracted.

“You are back? How was work today?” Golden asked, standing to kiss Xander.

She took his bags from his hand and the stethoscope around his neck and placed them on the table.

“It was a little hectic, the hospital was busier than usual but I survived.” he said tired and resting his head on her shoulder.

“Why don't you go and take a shower and come down for dinner. I made lasagna.” she said, taking his work bag and leading him upstairs.

Xander was an amazing cook and so Golden had also learned to cook. He taught her, and being a fast learner she had steadily improved on her cooking.

“Ummm! Sounds delicious. I can't wait to taste it. Are you going to shower with me? I wouldn't mind having some dessert before dinner.” Xander said as he carefully grabbed Gigi's waist and teased her.

“Hey stop you naughty boy. You get dessert after dinner, not before. Now hurry and have a bath.” Gigi pushed Xander into the bathroom and went back down to set the table.

At the table, they discussed about work. Gigi's graduation and induction ceremony was in three days time. Her family was flying to London the next day for the ceremony.

“Baby I have something I would like to share with you.” Gigi said, sipping her white wine. She slipped the two offer letters to him.

Xander dropped his fork and picked up the letters that Gigi had passed to him. He opened the first letter and read the content, then he read the second letter.

He had a big smile on his face by the time he was done reading both letters. He was super proud of his girl.

“This is huge Princess. Congratulations.” he said, holding her hand and kissing it.

“Thank you my love. I haven't made a decision yet though.” Golden paused and looked at him.

“I know you took the job at St. Catherine because of me. And I know it's supposed to end by the end of next month.

Your life and most of your businesses are in Florida and I don't want to be selfish. I'm willing to move back to Florida. I'm sure I can get a job there.” Gigi said with a smile.

“You are wrong about one thing Princess. My life is wherever you are. As for my other businesses, they run independently and I don't have to be there physically for them to function.”

Xander felt very touched that Gigi was willing to give up two good offers just to be wherever he was.

What she didn't know was that she was the deciding factor and she had his heart. Even if she asked him to move to the moon, he was willing, as long as he was with her.

“Since we are sharing good news, then I have one too.” Xander said. “Actually baby, I applied to St. Augustine's Children's Hospital here in Northbridge.” he paused to see her reaction. “and I got an offer.

I will be resuming once I'm done with my contract at St. Catherine. I meant it when I said home is wherever you are.”

Golden was shocked. She had been happy when she received the offer letters, but she wanted to consider Xander and was willing to let them go.

Yet, he had gone ahead to get a job here in Northbridge, just to stay by her side. Gigi felt overwhelmed with love.

For the first time in a long time, Golden didn’t feel like she was choosing between paths. She had already found her home.
