Chapter 91 - Hour 91
Another hour passed. I was breaking into a sweat because of anxiousness. Cara did not seem to be doing any better.
To avoid being swallowed up by worry, I spoke to Zayd.
"How did you get pulled into this mess?" I asked.
"I thought you already knew," he said. His face was blank. He was probably more worried about Liana and her baby than any of us. He had been with her since the start.
"I know that Ria was hit by your car. And that she was killed, and her organs were trafficked. That's all. I don't know how you fit into this," I said.
"After OneLife declared that Ria had run away, I was not convinced. She did not seem to me like a person who would run away from the hospital. So, I began to investigate. I had my doubts about what was going on at OneLife, but I was not sure," he said, his voice breaking.
I sat down next to him and placed my hand on his, squeezing it comfortingly.
"Then Liana showed up at my office one day. She told me she was Ryan's girlfriend and was pregnant with his child. She was so distressed that I could not help but listen to her problems," he said. "She told me all about Ryan's illegal activities at OneLife and the intentions that he had towards his unborn child."
"And everything else just fell into place," I said.
He nodded. "Life had become a nightmare. Truly."
I agreed with him. A nightmare that was actually real.
