Prologue

It wasn't planned... and yet it couldn't be undone.

I caught them both, unexpectedly and freezing cold, lying in the bedroom of my house.

Actually, I was supposed to sleep with a friend, but fate and my forgotten backpack had brought me back home on this warm Saturday evening.

And there they lay, hugging each other, not realizing that I could see them through the slightly open door.

There was my mother, whom I loved and respected above all else, but he was there too.

A man who bore no resemblance to my father.

A man who had no business here.

A man who just looked at me in shock.

I widened my eyes, stopped breathing and took a few unsteady steps backwards until the hallway wall prevented me from getting any further distance from this situation.

"Mia", I heard my mother's voice, but it didn't sound like usual...

she seemed strange to me.

I freed myself from the rigidity, quickly ran down the hall to my room, grabbed my backpack and ran back to the front door, where my mother was standing wrapped only in a blanket.

"Mia, please wait."

I didn't look at her, my whole body was shaking, and then I grabbed the front door handle and rushed off into the rain.

Far away from this nightmare, but I didn't know that this one moment would change everything.
