PROLOGUE

In the evening, I am walking alone in the dark street towards home. The street is quiet and seems like no one is alive. I can only hear the leaves from the trees, rustling. There's no loud and unpleasant noise from people, not even irritating sound from the cars. Everything is silent, as if the place is dead, just like a ghost street that only appears in the night and will vanish when the first sunlight strikes down from the sky. I can also smell the scent of the street and it's kind of odd.

"Where is everyone?" I asked myself. Something is really strange. No stores were open, and there is no lights from every houses.

I stopped walking for a while, I looked above and watched the full moon hanging in the sky, glowing dimly. The moonlight slowly travels towards the tree's leaves and sheds on the land. Then oneself continue to walk and looked down, perceiving the uncertain, indistinct shadows of the trees that are swaying on the ground, giving me the illusion of monsters dancing slyly in the night, as it is planning to attack. As I started to walk fast, I suddenly hear a scream. Because of curiosity, I ambled towards the dark alley where I heard the shrieking. My eyes got widened when I caught a sight of a man at the top of the woman who's laying on the ground. The man is kind of kissing the woman's neck. I tried to walk near them and when the woman saw me, she asked for help.

"H-help me, p-please." The woman is crying as she begged me.

I saw a rock and bravely throw it to the man and it hit his head. I was stunned when the man didn't react at all. The strange man turned to me with his eerie looking face. He stares at me using his intense eyes with a small black dot on its center. His mouth was wide open, showing it's crooked, big, yellow set of teeth. Above his eyebrows, there's a fresh open wound that shows off his red flesh. A pale looking face splattered with blood from the rotten flesh of his wounds and very messy black hair. I feel disgust when I smelled the toxic pong from its body odor. The man is clearly not a human, but a monster. My heart started to beat faster. I was just standing there, frozen. I don't know what to do, my legs won't even budge. The man begin to stumble and stagger towards me. He tries to bit me and,

I woke up when my sister, Brianna just suddenly tapped my right shoulder. "Hey El--" Brianna slowly took off my earphones and whispered, "We already arrived." I groaned and pushed her away.

"Come on, go bring your luggage inside." Brianna said as she got off the car and dropped my baggage.

"Go there first. I'll follow later." I annoyingly said and put my earphones back.

I was left alone inside the car. I sigh in relief when I realized that all of the crazy occurrence was just a dream. Well, it's actually a nightmare for me. I actually often dream about monsters, don't know what that means. I just shrugged my shoulders and get out of the car and went inside our new house.

We just moved in to a small town here at Port Oléas. Here is more peaceful than the city. It's quiet and far from those deafening sounds of cars. When we still live at New York, our house is on the side of the street where it's so crowded and very noisy.

Port Oléas is kind of weird name, right? Yet, it is unique and it sounds magical.

When I finally entered the house. I was amazed to see how huge it is compared to our old house. I stopped and roamed my eyes around. It needs cleaning, there's dust everywhere. Well, it's understandable, since this house is quite old and it needs renovation to be a completely comfortable home.

"Welcome to our new home!" Brianna happily said as she ran towards upstairs.

"Both of your room are upstairs." Mom told me.

I went upstairs while bringing my heavy luggage. I entered the empty room, then I sat up the bed. I took off my earphones and I unpacked my stuffs. I opened the closet, and its was a relief when I saw that it is already clean in the inner side, no more cleaning to be done. I happily put my clothes inside, afterwards I closed it. Subsequently, I saw something standing besides the closet, covered by a white cloth. I removed the cloth, and I perceived an old mirror. As I touched it, there's a bit of dust that made it a total blurry. I took rid of the dust by wiping it using my index finger, but it isn't enough for it to be wholly clear.

I advanced downstairs to get a cleaning cloth for wiping the mirror. I saw mom on the living room sweeping the floor. At the moment, I approached her.

"Mom, do you have another cloth or maybe an unused fabric? I just need it to polish the old mirror in my room." I asked.

"I put it inside that cabinet." Mom responded as she was pointing her finger at the wooden cabinet.

"Oh--okay. Thanks, mom." I said and nodded as I go to the cabinet. I opened each drawers. "Found it!" I uttered as I located the cloth inside the third drawer. When I lay my hand on the cloth, there was something underneath it. It is somewhat a small and solid object. I curiously picked up the cloth and there I saw a key. I was amazed by its design, it's rather different from the other keys, considering the resemblance of it to a cactus plant.

"What key is this for?" I murmured while meticulously looking at it. "Mom! Do you have a key that looks like a cactus?" I asked mom while staring at the key.

"A what?!" Mom asked me back.

"Mom, are you deaf--" I cut off my own phrase when I realized that mom is not in the living room anymore.

"Did you just say that I was deaf?!" She suddenly provoked.

"Oh no no. I mean--" I scratched my head. Mom is a little bit frightening, sometimes. “I mean is this your key?" I asked and come closer to her in the kitchen as I am showing her the key.

"No, that's not mine. Where did you get that?" She questioned me back.

"In the drawer." I shortly responded.

"It must be from the old owner. Just put it back to where it belongs." I just nodded, but I didn't put it back.

I tried to search all over the place for the keyhole. I looked around the living room, also checked the dining room and even the balcony. But, I couldn't find it. There's no hole that fits to this key. I shook my head and ambled towards my room. I sat on my bed with one's face downward and took a glance at the key that I was holding. I scrutinized it then I suddenly saw a name being engraved on it.

Alecia

I wonder who is Alecia. Whoever she is, she must know what this key for. I just lifted my shoulders and placed the key inside the desks drawer. I lay on the bed and simultaneously, I am having a thought about how my life would turned out after days, months or years living here. It is typically a new environment, new school, new classmates, new schoolmates, new neighbors and new friends. Oh.. well, it's conceivable that my life here would be easy and maybe fun, I guess.

I kept on thinking until my eyes had finally given up. I have fallen asleep.
