I walked in the supermarket with Tommy by my side and looked at the shopping list. I sighed and walked down the different aisles looking for the demanded products and ingredients that Aunt Lucy told me to buy. Tommy tugged on my arm and pulled me down the aisle with cakes and chocolate. I smiled at my small cousin and kneeled in front of him so that we were now the same height.
"Listen, Tommy boy,” I said in a sweet voice. "Let's grab what your mommy told us to buy first, then we'll buy you some chocolate,” I said and watched as his eyes lighten. "Okay?” I asked and he nodded enthusiastically. I put his hand back in mine and looked at the list again.
I'm Kimberly Ella Perry. I'm seventeen and I moved here a week ago. I was now living with my Aunt Lucy, her husband Max, and their two kids, Grace, who was the same age as me, and Tommy who was six years old. My parents were busy traveling all over the world for their work, so they sent me here with my Aunt Lucy. I adored her. I was thrilled by the idea of living with her. I know that you'll say that I'm crazy or insane, but I loved her more than my own mother. My parents never worried about me, and sometimes I felt like a burden for them. In a month, I might see them only once.
One day, my Aunt Lucy called home and she had the brilliant idea of telling my mom to send me over hers. I couldn't help but yell with happiness. I hated living in a big house all alone, with only two maids. And guess what? I was more comfortable with the maids than my own parents. They knew me better than anyone else and I considered them more like family. They were heartbroken that I was moving here but they knew that it was for the best. My cousin Grace is wonderful. She's more like my sister. She's the typical cheerleader type and would do anything for me. When she heard that I was moving to live with her, she practically made me go deaf as she screamed with happiness right in my ears.
My parents, on the other hand, had no specific emotion. It made no difference to them whether I was home or not. They simply agreed and asked me to pack. They gave me a credit card in case I wanted to buy my own things and so I wouldn’t be dependent on my aunt. But I knew that If I wanted something, my aunt would buy it for me. My parents bought me a car so that it would be easy for me to move, but somehow, I knew that it was a way of bribing my love for them. I rolled my eyes at the thought.
Today was Saturday and I was doing some shopping for Aunt Lucy. I volunteered to take Tommy with me as I knew that Grace wouldn't have the patience to look after him and also because he was so damn cute. He would listen only to me and his father. If Aunt Lucy and Grace asked him to do something, he would simply stick out his tongue and run away.
I'll be going to school on Monday. First day at this new school. I hated being the new kid. I hated when I was the center of attraction at this new school. But I was lucky enough to have my cheerleader of cousin there.
I looked at the last thing on my list and smiled because I had everything covered. I put the box of juice in my shopping basket. Tommy was jumping happily next to me and pulled me towards the chocolate aisle. I couldn't help but chuckle at this cute boy. "I want this one!” he said showing me a chocolate bar. I smiled and motioned him to put it in the basket.
"Take more Tommy,” I said with a smile and his eyes lit up and he gave me a toothy smile. Of course, I was going to spoil him to death. I always wanted to have a little brother. I pulled my credit card out as Tommy chose more sweets. I was looking for a chocolate pack for Grace. She loved dark chocolate. I started looking at the different shelves. Suddenly, I bumped into a small body. I turned to look and saw a little girl. I smiled at her, and she gave me a hesitant smile. She was looking at the chocolates with envy.
"Hey doll, you're alone?” I asked her and gave her a smile to show her that I was being friendly.
"No, my brother's over there,” she said pointing behind her.
"Then what are you doing here?” I asked as Tommy ran and shoved a handful of chocolates in the basket.
"Emmy!” Tommy said happily and took the little girl's hand in his. I looked at them with a questioning expression.
"You know her?” I asked looking at Tommy and their linked hands.
"It's Gracie's boyfriend sister,” Tommy explained while tapping his chin. I simply smiled and took Tommy's hand in mine, and we walked to the cashier. Tommy was busy talking with Emmy and seriously I could burst out laughing if they were not kids. They were arguing about who the best ninja turtle was.
"Emmy,” I called her and looked around. "Where's your brother?” I asked. She turned her face and looked around, making her beautiful blond hair go all over her face. I put the items on the counter and waited for the cashier to tell me the cost. I frowned when he winked at me. Gross, he was like thirty, for God's sake.
"There he is!” I heard Emmy shout and pointed behind me before running off. I paid the cashier who slipped a piece of paper to me. I hesitantly opened it to see a number written on it. I scowled and glared at him. I turned on my heels and balled up the paper. I turned to look at him before throwing the paper ball at his head. Tommy laughed and I high fived him.
Suddenly I heard a deep chuckle coming from behind me. Tommy let go of my hand and ran away. I turned around to see him in the arms of a blond guy. He smiled and I saw Emmy standing beside him. He must be Grace's boyfriend. He walked towards me with Tommy in his arms.
"Hey, I'm Chase,” he said and put Tommy back down so that he was standing next to me. Just as I was about to reply, a guy came up beside him. I think my jaw dropped. Wow. He was hot. His messy black hair, blue eyes, and his sculpted body were drool worthy. When he saw me, his eyes widened. Thank god Tommy tugged on my hand, otherwise I could have spent the whole day admiring the Adonis standing in front of me.
"Kim,” I replied with a smile.
"Kim, this is Aaron,” Chase said as Aaron seemed to focus back on us and blinked several times.
"Hey,” he simply said and smiled. I smiled back taking Tommy's hand and blowing a kiss to Emmy.
"Nice to meet you, but we really need to go,” I said looking at Chase only. I knew that if I looked at Aaron, I would get lost in his deep blue eyes. Chase nodded while Aaron stood there with his hands shoved in his pocket, staring at me. I smiled and turned to make my way out of the supermarket when Chase called my name.
"Kim!” he called, and I turned to look at him, but my eyes met Aaron’s first. He smiled and looked away quickly. "Tell Grace that I’ll pick her up at seven,” Chase said, and I nodded. I walked to my car. It was a silver Volvo and I loved it. Tommy started jumping in the backseat while shoving some sweets in his mouth. I completely forgot that sugar made Tommy hyper. Damn. It was going to be difficult to calm him. I, too, became hyper whenever I ate too much sugar. I guess it kind of runs in our blood. I hid the rest of the chocolate in my bag so that he wouldn't find it. I turned the CD player on, and the music started playing. Tommy was wiggling in his seat, and I was nodding my head to the beat of the sound.
Soon I reached home and as soon as I parked the car, Tommy got out of his seat and ran in the house. I grabbed the shopping bags and walked in the house behind Tommy.
"Mommy!” I heard Tommy yell, "I ate chocolate!” he shouted happily. I put the bags on the counter and walked in the living room to see Tommy jumping on the couch and Lucy watching her son in amusement.
"You gave him chocolate,” Aunt Lucy said, and I nodded. I decided to play with Tommy.
"Tommy better run or Monster Kimmy will eat him!” I roared and he squealed before running away laughing. I laughed and started running behind him. He ran up the stairs and burst into Grace's room. I ran in and saw Grace glaring at Tommy, who had hidden under her bed.
"Chase told you to be ready by seven,” I told her and grabbed Tommy's feet, pulling him from under Grace's bed. He shouted and laughed as I started tickling him. I couldn't help but laugh at his cheerful face. When I saw that he was soon out of breath, I stopped and watched him run away.
"You saw him?” she asked and jumped on the bed pulling me along with her.
"Yeah, he was with his sister and his hot friend,” I told her, emphasizing the word hot.
"You mean Aaron?” she asked wiggling her eyebrows. I nodded and she smiled sadly. "He's Chase's cousin and is not single,” she said and stood up to start looking for clothes.
